That is a good observation well made. However, looking from a different persspective, one could make the argument that the mindset that gave us "SS, Medicare, every single entitlement program" is the same mindset that has us embroled in a foreign policy disaster. Note, the war goes well but foreign policy is not what one would wish. Perhaps the original poster was attempting the bring out this subtle but important view.
When is it EVER as one would wish?
Which disaster? There are so many to choose from! And the MSM would NEVER allow the rest of the world to know that any policy of a Republican President would be known as a success.
Are you talking about the war in Iraq? I do not like war, but whether you want to or not, sometimes you have got to fight. We are FINALLY engaged with an enemy that has been at war with US since the Carter administration. It was the cowardly acts of previous presidents (including Ronald Reagan!) who have emboldened the Luddite 6th century fanatics that war against the west. All the previous administrations want NOT to rock the boat and stir things up, especially the impeached piece of crap Clinton. He was willing to purposely ignore the DEATHS of US and foreign nationals in attacks on US military assets (USS Cole) and the US embassy’s (Tanzania & Kenya) when they had ABSOLUTE PROOF POSITIVE of who was involved and which government was acting as a base of support.
Think Iraq was a mistake? I do not. Want some weapons of mass destruction? We found the evidence in not only Iraq but ALSO in Libya where NO ONE was looking! Why? Because we and the rest of the world was not looking for them there. General Gadhafi coughed up the nuke materials because HE thought he was next on the Bush list of terrorists. The major reason that there is a world perception of the invasion of Iraq as a foreign policy failure is because the media and the foreign governments that have a vested interests in the failure of a strong US are creating that image. You think the Russians want a strong US in this world? You cannot imagine how many changes of diapers the mullahs in Tehran had to make when they found how easy it was for Israel to strike DEEP into Syria and knock out a secure facility, defended by the “best” system the Russians sold them!
We live in a world that is interconnected on almost every conceivable level. The way to protect yourself is to be strong and forceful, not willing to close your eyes to the rabid dog that is fundamental islam, wandering about just outside the fence of your yard.
Look, Dr. Paul has some points on which I agree. BUT those points are overshadowed by his COLLOSSAL ignorance of the rest of the real threats that face our nation and civilization as a whole.
