Please pray for my Granddaughter, her appendix burst [Good news update: #181]
myself | 10-8-2007 | me

Posted on 10/08/2007 5:55:16 PM PDT by Judith Anne

My 12 yo granddaughter, named Rachel, was taken by her mom, (my daughter) to the ER last night with a bad stomach ache and a fever. Her dad, my son-in-law, stayed home with the other two kids.

At 11pm they called me to come and stay with the younger children because Rachel was going into surgery. By the time they operated, it had been seeping pus (had burst) and now she is very very sick. She's on two IV antibiotics, glassy-eyed, feverish, and sort of out of it.

I'm so upset! She waited 2-1/2 hours in a very slow ER--in agonizing pain, and now this! They don't know when she'll be released--certainly not till she's without a fever for 24 hours; at least her kidneys are functioning okay right now.

Please pray for her recovery--I ask not for myself, but for her sake, and my daughter and her husband who are worried sick, and so is her little sister.

Thank you so much. I've known people who've had this happen, and none of them look as sick as poor Rachel does.

Thank you thank you everyone, FReeper prayers are so wonderful! She has had no fever since this morning, she is allowed to eat some small amounts. No appetite, still VERY tender, can hardly walk to the br but feeling better, working with her respiratory therapist so that she doesn’t get pneumonia; made a couple of little jokes, has asked again for communion.

Antibiotic changed to rocephin, rented some movies, got a bunch of presents. She is still too calm, but her hands were cool this evening, nurses are outstanding. Nurse showed her how to fake v-tac on her monitor—LOL!

It’s so amazing what a difference 15 hours can make—her skin looks normal, her eyes aren’t there yet, her smile is still a little forced. She is comfortable in the hospital gown, which is not normal. But we are so encouraged! She wll be in the hospital until at least Friday afternoon or Saturday morning, must finish all the IV meds and then stay afebrile for 24 hours. She’s not able to take enough fluids, so they are still giving her IVs of normal saline. Her BP which was high is now down to a normal range, another very good sign.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart, I am going to be able to sleep tonight; she is expected to continue to improve, and I am so grateful to everyone who prayed. She is my heart.

I will pray for her and your family. My brother’s appendix burst and he was in ICU for weeks. It took weeks of antibiotics and “flusing out” his system and it worked. I pray for the same with your loved one.

Fever again last night. Much more cheerful, still a fair amount of pain on the right side. Getting rocephin, and improving.

Thank you everyone, for your prayers for her. I’m going to print this out and take it to her, she’s very religious, and this will touch her deeply.

Rachel will likely be in the hospital until next Monday, at least. She was able to use a chair and take a shower today, so feels much more refreshed. She looks something like healthy, and that is a huge relief. She gets to eat a real supper tonight.

The nurses are spectacular. God is great. Freepers are such a blessing. I am so grateful.

Prayers are powerful and FReepers are a blessing. I’m so happy to hear the good report about Rachel. I’ll bet she is really looking forward to the “real supper” tonight.

Thanks for the update. She has been in my prayers.

Judith Anne, my prayers are with your daughter. I went through a similar situation with my 5 year old daughter about 6 weeks ago. She was feverish and had stomach aches, me and my wife thought she had the stomach flu. The following day we took her to the emergency as she was complaining of a real bad stomach pain, she was in tears. We waited in the emergency room for 7 1/2 hours before anyone realized that by then her appendix bursted. She had to have emergency surgery, she made it through and stayed in the hospital for 7 days, she is better now but still has a long recovery ahead of her, my aunt is a nurse and said it would take about a year for her insides to fully heal.Every time she complains now of a stomach ache we freak out and have taken her back to the doctors on several occassions just to confirm, as I am typing this she is sick right now with vomiting and fever, even though she may just have the flu that situation makes me think twice about anything. Your granddaughter will be okay as a parent though it is stressful. Again my prayers are with her.

Truthfully, I am sure Rachel will be very closely monitored for a very long time.

Has your doctor given you any guidelines as to when to call him? I’d want to, if she was vomiting, and the surgery was 6 weeks ago, especially with a fever.

Isn’t this dreadful? I’m glad your little girl came through, and I’ll certainly pray she doesn’t get sick again from some leftover bugs. Thank you so much for your prayers, I really appreciate it.

Kids are tough and innocent. Would that we all could be.

G-d be with you and yours. Great news.

Prayers continue.

As long as the belly germs keep knocked back, she should bounce back quickly.

Little ones have remarkable recuperative powers.

When she gets her modesty back, she will be ready to go home! Amazing how that works!

Prayers and blessings from Heaven and from little ol' me in Delaware.
