During a long and colorful career, Roger Ailes has dug ditches, advised Richard Nixon on his 1968 presidential campaign, produced off-Broadway shows -- and started cable networks, notably Fox News Channel.

Mr. Ailes, 67 years old, runs his TV empire with combativeness and guile, and is secretive about his plans for the business channel.

It took Fox News four years to surpass CNN's ratings, and Fox Business is starting at a similar disadvantage. Now, Mr. Ailes is taking on General Electric Co.'s CNBC, a network that for now, will reach three times as many homes as the start-up business network. But it's a rival he knows well, because he served as the president of the channel he now must knock down.

News Corp., Fox's parent, has agreed to buy Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal, and has said it wants to make use of the newspaper's journalists on the business network. However, it will be hampered by an existing content-sharing arrangement between the Journal and CNBC that contractually runs through 2012.

....I will call a lot of audibles at the line once the play starts. I will not stand around the sidelines with a gamebook and a set of plays that I'll stick to. I'll change many things in the first year, I'm sure.
WSJ: What specific things has CNBC done in anticipation of Fox Business?
Mr. Ailes: The first thing they did was to say, "Well, Ailes seems to be patriotic, so we'll name it 'America's Business Network' and take that away from Ailes."... They've embraced capitalism suddenly... .

"WSJ: Would a Democratic administration have any effect on the Fox Business Network?
MR. AILES: Well, if you listen to them right now with their fairness doctrine nonsense and their 'we need to shut down this one little voice over here that's irritating,' yes.

If we suddenly get an administration that is not for freedom of speech, we'll have difficulty. However, we will fight and endure if that becomes necessary. But freedom of speech is really important.
Freedom of the press is really important. We have not had to take any major story off our air in 11 years because we've been wrong, and we don't anticipate having to do that in the future."
Maria Baritromo forever!
I think the MoneyHoney is losing her luster. I
can’t stand her shrieking voice. I have no doubt
Ailes will provide ample competition .. ;)
this is an entertaining read. several amusing or otherwise humorous comments, including items about Greenspan’s book, Jim Cramer, his interest in attending parties locally, and his relationship with Murdoch.
He will kick their butt!
Anything would be better than Jim Cramer’s one note rants.
Fine with me. I’ll settle for Erin Burnett.
If you would have said Jim Cramer...
Wow, she’s just busting out with journalistic talent.
Her sweaters are one of the few good things about winter in Chicago.
I like to read Cramer, but his “Mad Money” show on CNBC is, to me, unwatchable. Now, Erin Burnett is very watchable ...
Interestingly, Roger Ailes seems to agree.
Hey Roger.....Fox News is UNWATCHABLE anymore because of all the moonbat LEFTY “analysts”!! Get it more BALANCED and I might come back!
He’s haired that Glick girl who doesn’t seem too bright and has a bad voice also. I watch Liz Clayman and Larry Kudlow for Biz News.
Erin Burnett is terrific!
I like Becky Quick myself.
.
haynes = haines, not to be confused with Fruit of the Loom underwear
