Let us hope he has studied up well for the debates, that is about 1000% more important.
Hope he does great. I think he’d be the best choice for President.

I have been waiting so long for this debate to arrive, and now I find out that it’s at 3pm CT — wth????? I’ll either have to turn the volume down real low at work on my laptop, or wait until 8pm for the replay. Grrr...

>>>>>"These distinguished individuals bring wise counsel and invaluable experience to my campaign leadership team, and they will play a critical role in helping spread my consistent conservative message across America." As long as Fred beats Rooty and Hillary, frankly, I don't care who he picks for his national leadership team.

Macaca......
Think George was right on for calling a macaca a MACACA! They think George was harsh, I’ve got much better more correct descriptives.
Them macaca’s can get out of the kitchen if they can’t stand the heat!

The downside is that this is a heavyweight establishment team, which risks the impression that Fred is going to be yet another insider. As a former senator and lobbyist, he already has some insider credentials, although he also has a record that seems to be pretty clean and independent.
The upside is that this is a heavyweight establishment team, which suggests that the establishment thinks he is the most likely candidate to win the election.
What kind of deals they may cut, one way or the other, who knows? Fortunately or unfortunately, no one can win a major party primary without this kind of major league support coming on board.
I am hoping that they have taken a look at all the candidates and have simply decided that Fred is the best bet to win.

I meant to add that Howard Baker is the most interesting name on this list.

I am not thrilled with the likes of Howard Baker. He and John Anderson were trying to be the “reasonable” alternatives to Reagan in ‘80. He is also a chipmunk.
I am willing to support Thompson since I doubt any of my preferred second-tier candidates will make it. I am trying not to have delusions about what I am getting.

Fred Thompson is running for POTUS, not Howard Baker. And Fred`s a federalist. Which means he believes in a limited federal government and more adherence to the Founders idea of states rights.

Howard Baker was a true statesman during his years in Washington. He is a man among men who has few peers when talking about goverment and/or politics.
In his defense, most thought Reagan was too conservative to be electable back in 1980. Senator Baker tried to reach out to those conservatives who thought he might be a viable option. However, Senator Baker never said anything against Reagan and was one of his strongest supporters, culminating in his service as President Reagan's chief of staff.

In his defense, most thought Reagan was too conservative to be electable back in 1980.
After Iowa, "most" Republicans voted for Reagan over the "electable" Bush, Connolly, Anderson and Baker. The primaries were pretty much a cakewalk for Reagan in '80 once he fired the "eminent professional" John Sears.
So "most" voting Republicans did NOT think Reagan was too conservative in '80. Most Democrats did, but they'd say the same about John Connolly (though not necessarily Howard Baker). That leaves the Independents, who typically vote personality and gut more than straight issues. And the entrenched wonk class and the MSM, who mostly thought Reagan was too conservative. This is a good reason to dismiss the wonk and MSM class.
Howard Baker was always comfortable being in the minority party. His selection for Chief of Staff by Reagan was more a concession by a politically weakened Reagan at the time than anything.

If Fred favors limited government, why was he so willing to let the federal government regulate political speech?
