Whoopi’s to dumb to understand how to use birth control properly. Why should we listen to her on abortion?
She’s even lost count as to just how many abortions she has had.
She’s as much of a tramp as Paris Hilton.
Personally, I believe that there were such scenarios before the horrible Roe vs. Wade. But I sincerely doubt that it was an epidemic in the extent that Whoopi Goldberg claims.
I call bull crap on that one Whoopi, forty seven million and counting does not a "tortured decision" make. How many women have had more then one abortion? It has become the "birth control" of choice since it is taxpayer funded.

And since Roe v Wade, about 1,000,000 fetuses have been aborted each year. Some choice.
RECYCLE MYTH OF COAT HANGER AND BACK-ALLEY ABORTION
With the real possibility that the infamous 1973 U.S. Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision may be overturned in the foreseeable future, the so-called coat hanger argument citing thousands of maternal deaths prior to that date - a ‘statistic’ pivotal in convincing the Supreme Court to legalize abortion on demand - is being resurrected with increasing frequency.
Even as late as October, 2001, Planned Parenthood former executive director Diane Booth, claimed that, “Before the legalization of abortion under Roe v. Wade, one-third of gynecological ward hospital beds in the United States were filled with women who were there because of botched, illegal, back-alley abortions.” Dr. Bernard Nathanson, co-founder in the 1960s of the National Abortion Rights Action League (but now a pro-life convert), knowingly fabricated the falsehood that “tens of thousands” of women died each year from abortion. At that time, Nathanson admitted that he and his NARAL colleagues pulled that number “out of thin air. We knew it was a powerful and compelling lie and we used it shamelessly” (Aborting America, 1979).
Abortion proponents insist that strict abortion laws drive women to risk their lives and health in an effort to end unwanted pregnancies. “Keep Abortion Safe, Keep It Legal. Tens of thousands of women died each year when abortion was illegal. Making abortion legal makes it safe.” That`s the cry now being voiced in more and more press coverage of abortion. This is pure rubbish! The actual number of deaths of women from illegal abortions was never in the tens of thousands. Abortion was legalized in Canada in January 1970, and, it the United States, in January 1973. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the numbers of deaths of women from illegal abortions in the U.S. during the decades prior to legalization, was as follows:

The Ottawa-commissioned Bagley Report on the working of the abortion law (1977) carried statistics on the number of women who died from attempts to abort before the new law came in in 1969 - about 12 a year.
Although legalized, about 30 women each year continue to die in the U.S. and about 2 in Canada. (The number is certainly higher, as abortion related deaths and post abortion complications are frequently not reported by medical staff and institutions as having resulted from an abortion.) That small number of maternal deaths is not attributable to legalization but solely to technology which has made abortion, both illegal and legal, a relatively safe procedure for mothers. Were abortion to be banned tomorrow, the same simple techniques would still be used, not coat hangers, and society would not witness a significant increased in maternal death related to illegal abortions.
What is currently being described as back-alley abortions were in fact nothing more than back-office abortions. They were executed in back offices of doctors. This has been admitted by no less than Mary Calderone, a former president of Planned Parenthood. The July 1960 American Journal of Health quotes her as saying that “90% of all illegal abortions are presently done by physicians.” So on the admission itself of the world`s largest private provider of abortions, when abortion became legal, back-office abortions became front-office abortions. It would logically follow, therefore, that legalizing abortion brought no significant improvement in safety for women. ( I can just hear the pro-aborts: “What does logic have to do with anything?”)
Abortion advocates fought and won their battle three decades ago on grounds that it would protect women from back-street “butchers.” The irony is that the butchers are still working, but today they are the pro-choice movement`s heroes. Henry Morgentaler was a back-street abortionist before he became Canada`s champion of reproductive freedom. (How many women, if they knew it, would entrust their reproductive organs to a man like Morgentaler who, as described in his latest biography, treats his personal problems with primal scream therapy and banging himself round a room with padded walls?)
Lies in the abortion industry have taken a life of their own. Planned Parenthood, which sees truth as its worst enemy, keeps upping the ante in the fictional number of maternal death resulting from illegal abortions. For instance, it alleged in 1992 that 140,000 women die annually in Mexico from illegal abortions. Another of its preposterous claims was its 1991 allegation of 400,000 annual deaths in Brazil resulting from illegal abortions. Consider if you will the World Health Organization (WHO) statistics showing that 41,685 Brazilian women between the ages of 15 and 41 died in 1986 of all causes. Of these, 241 died of complications from both legal and illegal abortions. These are but two examples of the extreme exaggerations which Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry it supports keep spoon-feeding an unsuspecting public. Their sheer magnitude only serves to confirm how intellectually bankrupt abortion defenders are. They prey on the credibility of people, knowing full well that they will seldom question numbers whose origin have some semblance of plausibility.

The symbolism of a wire hanger has been a traditional gambit used at feminist rallies and by counterprotesters at anti-abortion rights marches. Actors Whoopi Goldberg and Cybil Shepherd waved their hangers at an abortion-rights rally in Washington, D.C., in April 2004. In January 2003, I was at a Washington March for Life and noticed a man who wasn’t carrying a sign but was swinging a wire hanger. His silent message: “Overturn Roe and women will be dying from coat-hanger abortions.”
The myth of the origin of Roe v. Wade has been perpetuated by feminists and abortion advocates either willfully or out of ignorance. There is no convenient catch phrase that can be put on a billboard on behalf of a storage company because the truth requires deep thinking, not sensory amusement.
The “Jane Roe” whose case went before the Supreme Court was not a victim of rape. She never had an abortion. Her real name is Norma McCorvey and she now adamantly opposes abortion. She wrote about the truth of her involvement in the historic 1973 decision in her 1998 book, “Won By Love.” Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a cofounder of NARAL, blew the myth wide open in his 1997 book, “Confessions of an Ex-Abortionist.” He admits that early abortion-rights advocates totally fabricated the number of women dying from back-alley and wire-hanger abortions. The 10,000 figure they used to affect public opinion was actually closer to 250, he writes. The actual figure in 1972 for deaths from illegal abortion was 39, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Dr. Nathanson also admitted to fabricating polls that indicated public support for abortion rights.
The lies continue to this day. Healthy women are dying from legal abortions, but these deaths are disguised as hemorrhaging, peritonitis, or other natural causes.
Do Women Deserve To Vote?

How on earth did we women ever get the vote? If intellectual acumen were a requirement for suffrage today, we’d still be waiting for our shot at the ballot box. Fortunately, the pioneering suffragettes who fought for the 19th Amendment had their heads screwed on tight - unlike the “Sex and the City” groupies who think abortion as birth control is something worth fighting for. Five girls from Queens are holding a Brooklyn beer fund-raiser this week for their poor sisters in South Dakota, who’ve lost their right to kill their babies in utero.
I can’t blame these modern women for being ignorant of feminist history, because so much of it has been censored. Recently, HBO aired “Iron Jawed Angels,” which concentrated on the radical wing of the suffrage movement. Oscar winner Hillary Swank portrayed Alice Paul, who organized a march on Washington and was the author of the original Equal Rights Amendment in 1923. What is missing, of course, is any indication that Paul did not want to link abortion to women’s rights. “Abortion is the ultimate exploitation of women,” a colleague of hers quotes her as saying.
In the e-mail announcing the Brooklyn event, one of the organizers is quoted as saying, “There’s no way I want to live in a country where my daughters might have to drive to Canada just to get birth control.” A recent study conducted by the Alan Guttmacher Institute found that abortions for women over 25 have increased, and that these women often are having multiple “procedures.” Abortion as birth control? This is the way abortion was used in the old Soviet Union, and Russia is now in a demographic death spiral. What ever happened to the condom or, better yet, self-control?
The beer fund-raiser at a Brooklyn pub, Cafe Grumpy in Greenpoint, is supposed to benefit Planned Parenthood of South Dakota’s legal fund. Incidentally, this “nonprofit” is a billion-dollar foundation that receives both federal and state funding and yet charges up front for abortions. I’m sure the Queens femmes are being hailed as heroines for organizing this event, but I prefer fund-raisers and their sponsors who support truly worthwhile organizations - those that respect life.
According to one of the organizers, they are surprised by the outpouring of support they’re getting from the community in their quest to help their sisters in South Dakota. Now why should they be surprised? This is New York City, the abortion capital of the nation, where women drag their daughters for third-term abortions. This is the town where a pro-lifer contacted a well-known daily newspaper columnist to let her know about an outdoor rally for women who were traumatized by abortion, and was told, “Get over it.” Let’s face it, the women in this town worship at the altar of abortion without even realizing that men, not women, get to eat the cake and have it, too.
So have your beer party, my dears, and fork over the dough to Planned Parenthood of South Dakota. Petition the governor with the wire hangers you plan to send - but remember that everything that was stated as fact about Roe v. Wade was a lie. Those 10,000 annual coat hanger abortion deaths cited by NARAL were actually fewer than a hundred. Just ask Bernard Nathanson, the co-founder of NARAL who is now pro-life as is Norma McCovey, the original Jane Roe.
Roughly 90% of pre-legalization abortions were performed by doctors. About 80% of the rest were performed by nurses or other professionals, usually with training, equipment, and emergency support provided by a physician. The 2% of abortions performed by people with no formal medical training included abortions performed by the Jane syndicate in Chicago, a cadre of female laymen trained and supported by doctors. Only a tiny, tiny fraction — fewer than 2% — of pre-legalization abortions were the grueseome Lysol or coat-hanger abortions we’re told were typical. And — this is even more important — the gruesome self-induced abortions were most often seen in women with severe mental illness, women with a history of other self-mutilating and/or self-destructive behavior. What it boils down to is that abortion enthusiasts took the rare and abberant behavior of women who were desperately in need of psychiatric care, and pretended that this was the common behavior of women who simply needed to have their pregnancies ended.
The other disengenuous claim was the numbers. Abortion enthusiasts told the American people that 5,000 to 10,000 women were dying every year from criminal abortions. The numbers were patently absurd, and their origin was recently traced to a flawed study published in the 1930’s. The author of the study surveyed a segment of the population — promiscuous young unmarried irregious urban women — and extrapolated, assuming that the middle-aged Mennonite farm wife and the prim Catholic maiden aunt were just as likely to resort to abortion as was the flapper. He then pulled a mortality rate out of the air and applied it to his projected number of annual abortions, and lo! Five to ten thousand women were dying. The truth of the matter is that all the efforts of public health officials to detect and prosecute abortionists led them to discover most abortion deaths, and one has to go back to the pre-penecillin era to find more than 1,000 women dying of all abortions — legal, illegal, and spontaneous (miscarriages). Given that before WWII country doctors routinely performed all manner of surgery — tonsilectomies, removing an appendex — in the patient’s home, stories of kitchen-table abortions in the 1920’s and 1930’s need to be placed in context. After the advent of antibiotics and blood transfusions, abortion deaths began to plummet, falling to fewer than 50 per year in the late 1960’s. Widespread availablity of contraceptives made avoiding pregnancy much easier, advances in medical technology made abortion injuries easier to treat, and psychiatric treatment of women with certain mental disorders was the primary thrust in eliminating dangerous “coat-hanger” abortions. The problem was being contained rapidly. Then came legalization.
The criminal abortionist lived a precarious life. If he botched the job, he could lose his license or even go to jail. Natural consequences tended to weed out the quacks or at least impose some discipline on them. Jesse Ketchum, for example, wasn’t a very good doctor (judging from the lawsuits against him), but he managed not to kill any of his illegal abortion patients. But when New York rolled out the red carpet to abortionists in 1970, Ketchum was in Buffalo the day the new law went into effect, doing abortions out of a hotel suite. As more and more abortionists sent patients home to die, without suffering consequences beyond a scolding by the public health officials, Ketchum grew bold. He began doing hysterotomy abortions in his office and managed to kill two legal abortion patients in a four month period. Milan Vuitch, likewise, had a clean record as a criminal abortionist but went on to kill two patients after legalization. Ketchum and Vuitch exemplify the impact of legalization: it made abortionists cocky. But again, we see dishonesty among the prochoice in presenting the results of legalization.
The murdered unborn would have probably liked some of that, too.
