Christians persecuting Christians isn’t a new hobby.

Would you assert that Christians are incapable of persecuting Christians?

When did becoming a Christian confer saintly perfection?

LOL, that's your answer to the link? Pathetic.

Some folks are educable some aren't.

Adolph Hitler did not lead a Christian life and the fact that other Christians have sinned has no bearing on that one way or the other.

When you call Adolph Hitler a Christian, it is a lie. It's as simple as that.

Yes, that's true. Why don't you actually read the sources about Hitler's plans to persecute Christians -- and then see whether his stated motives were anything like the motives of the persecutors of whom you speak?

Would you assert that Christians are incapable of persecuting Christians?

No, but they can't hold a candle to Stalin and Mao when it comes to persecuting their own.

It seems odd that the deliberate genocide and mass murders by atheists are airily dismissed as "well, I'm not like that, so atheism is untainted" while any evil done by any Christian is held to invalidate all of Christianity.

Or, take a more personal example.

I have seen a number of atheists say of others, "Well, he claimed at one point to be a Christian, so I must accept that, regardless of any other evidence."

But (here on FR) there have been well-known posters who claim to be atheists, who nonetheless disagree with a number of other agnostic/atheist posters in defending Christians. The claim to be an atheist is summarily dismissed as a lie.

Do you have a general principle which allows you to distinguish the two?

Cheers!

I think you are confused about the difference between those who claim, in a general sense, to be Christians, and those who have made an actual profession of personal faith in Christ Jesus.

People in the US do the same thing - they self-identify as Christians even though they really have no concept of what it means to be one. People have a tendency to just check off whatever box they think their parents fit into - if their parents were Protestants (as most Germans at that time probably were) then they’d check off the “Protestant Christian” box when surveyed. It’s just a label for them. It’s real for the true Christian, which I am quite certain Hitler was not. Could he have been converted before his death? Possibly, but “ye shall know them by their fruits.” His fruits were sour and rotten.
