According to a US source, Whitehouse officials were astonished by the imagery and by the fact US intelligence had not picked up on the facility previously.

CIA incompetence on display once again, that and/or the continued undermining of Bush's foreign policy by Clinton sympathizers.

Yeah, if MY candidate doesn't get the nomination, let's let Hillary win. That'll show'em.

The ABC story is nothing more than State Department disinformation...

Yes, it would seem quite likely to be disinformation, as you point out. But whose disinformation is it? It could have been thrown out to the lefty media by the National Jewish Democratic Council, with the intent of disparaging the cooperation on intelligence between the Bush Administration and Israel which was necessary to accomplish the mission successfully.

The NJDC is certainly not above spreading disinformation in its attempts to keep Jewish voters on the Dem "reservation."

Is Washington DC a Black Hole of intelligence, where smarts are pulled out of the brains of otherwise smart people and sucked into an inert mass? So, allowing Syria (and Iran) to build up their nuke programs supports "stability" in the Middle East? If that is true, we ought to back their efforts. If it isn't true, then we ought to take them out.

The Iranian regime is destabilizing Afghanistan and Iraq with active support of terrorists. Iran is supporting Syria, which is destabilizing Iraq by the infiltration of suicide bombers, terror financiers and supplies. Syria is also backing Hisballah in Lebanon, which is destabilizing Lebanon and last year started a war against Israel, they also support Hamas, which is a terror group in Palestine and murders Palestinians, Israelis and others.

Oh yeah, taking out the Syrian nuke plant is going to affect the stability in the Middle East. Indeed, in looks like the attack improves the stability and is causing Syria to reconsider it's plans.

If this was planned back in July...how does the recently arrived NK ship figure into it?

Was it delivering the final piece of something?

OK...I'm going to link you all to a DEBKA piece....bear with me....they ask a couple of really good questions.

Was Sept 6th the ONLY RAID.....OR were there others.....the world knows nothing about.

http://www.debka.com/headline_print.php?hid=4647

DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s military sources report that the Syrian early warning station, positioned at Marj as Sultan, 15 km east of Damascus and north of the Syrian air base at the international airport, is there to secure the Syrian capital and monitor Israeli air or missile activity on the Golan and from northern Israel.

The Shinshar station south of Homs, near the small Syrian air base of Al Qusayr Shayrat, is located opposite northern Lebanon. Its function is to sound the alarm if airplanes, missiles or warships approach Syria from Lebanese territory of from the eastern Mediterranean.

When the early warning stations in Syria were silenced, some communications systems, computers and cell phones were also knocked out in neighboring Lebanon – evidence that Syria had been bested in a cyber war against its electronic and radar systems.

DEBKAfile adds: Syrian war planners are at sea on several key points, such as:

1. When and from which did direction did the warplanes enter Syria airspace – the Mediterranean, Israel or Turkey?

2. Was the incursion a one-off or one of several which went unnoticed?

Until Israel released the bare information of the Sept. 6 air raid over Syria this week, neither Damascus nor Tehran knew for sure the identity of the air raiders, whether Israeli American or both.

Ok folks....time to puzzle this one out....DEBKA asks some good questions.

The IAF raid in Syria during September was planned for several months and was postponed a number of times due to heavy US pressure, ABC News quoted American officials as saying on Saturday. According to the report, Israel presented US officials with satellite imagery which clearly shows North Korean nuclear technology in a Syrian facility. According to a US source, Whitehouse officials were astonished by the imagery and by the fact US intelligence had not picked up on the facility previously.

I don't buy this story line but it does put the illusion of plausible deniability out there for the SOS ...

And, since you mention it, the location that was hit was much closer to U.S. assets in Iraq than it was Israels.

Furthermore, Israel has what .. maybe 1 or 2 spy satellites? Whereas the U.S. has what.. maybe a hundred. The idea that this site was unknown to our intelligence is laughable.

Shhh, not so load

Someone had to write a cover story for the diplomats ... wouldn't want them to have to actually tell the truth about this

Disable their anti-aircraft missile systems - cool

Disable their cable TV- downright inhumane!

"We lived thru something that changed the world....I hope some day we get the whole story."

Well, you won't find a truthful word about the "whole story" in the article for this thread.

For one thing, our birds watch every other bird in Space. We've known precisely what Israel has had their camera zoomed in on...Yet the closet fascists who wrote the article for this thread want to pretend that our guys didn't snap our own peak at what Israel was photographing.

Uh, uh. I ain't buying it.

Anyone who says that we were "surprised" by Israel's presentation of satelite imagery to the U.S. is either clueless or lying.

We knew what they photographed long before they showed us any of their own imagery...presuming *that's* even true (that they showed us a photo to gain our approval).

"There are threads where Lebanese cable tv went out and stayed out. I'll hafta search."

Cable TV signals are typically carried via coax cables. If you've ever played with signals over coax you know that they can be blocked, jammed, and even hi-jacked.

It doesn't always have to require a direct connection for the deed, either (though Israel is certainly capable of cutting an underground cable). For that matter, the cable and the repeaters present their own weak points.

Rewind 40 years though...and buried coax was once thought as "secure."
