When Mitt Romney appeared last week (via closed circuit from California) before the Council of Retired Chief Executives meeting in Washington, he faced kindred souls: rich Republicans who had managed big enterprises. Yet the second question from the audience was whether Romney's Mormon faith was hurting his quest for the Republican presidential nomination. He replied that about the only people who brought up his religion were members of the media, an answer that simply is untrue.
Romney is asked about Mormonism wherever he goes. In my travels, I find his religious preference cited everywhere as the source of opposition to his candidacy. His response to the former chief executives that only reporters care about this issue sounded like a politician's tired evasion. Romney was either too obtuse to appreciate his problem or was stalling because he had not determined how to deal with it. Contact with his advisers indicates that it's the latter.

A sad, but true observation indeed. It used to be hard to not answer all the hate filled rhetoric posts, but I find it's a waste of time, and doing so continues in the spirit of contention.
And Christ is at the head of His Church. Of course we have Christ. We also have Prophets and Apostles, just as the New Testament outlines. Your assumptions remain just that.
What concerns me is the general degradation in the political discourse, not just on the Mitt threads but on all of the political candidate threads. If I didnt know any better, my first reaction would be that we have been infiltrated with agents, whose sole purpose is disruption. If that is the case the agents have succeeded.
Is there a purpose for Free Republic beyond endless attacks and counter attacks?
no one said his being morman bothers you. I was referring to the article.
BTW, you now have an avowed atheist trying to come to your rescue. How does it feel? He's no better informed than you are.
Please explain this in light of Scriptures that speak otherwise:
Ephesians 4:
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets;and some, Evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Ephesians 2:
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
If our foundation is supposed to be prophets and apostles, and Christ is the Chief Cornerstone of that foundation, why then is Christ your final prophet? Where is the rest of your foundation? His prophets and Apostles keep His doctrine sure, and His teachings solid. Otherwise, the house crumbles and we are left with 30 thousand plus different Christian churches all teaching deferent things.
Surely the Lord God will do nothing, save he reveal his secret to his servants, the prophets. Amos 3:7
When I read my Bible, I do not find Jesus saying that only when I'm prepared will I receive further instruction. The truth of Jesus is written plainly for all to read and the Bible is an easily accessible work. A religion that wishes to hide the truth is reminiscent of a faith that has much to hide from its own parishoners. Hiding knowledge is a deceitful tactic that does not further the love of Christ... which is for all to receive.

Chapter one of Hebrews makes no reference to “adding things to scripture”. I would have thought you were the athiest, seeing you are so unfamiliar with the scriptures.
I don’t believe that...I have read some quotes from Joseph Smith and they are a bit strange to say the least. And some of the mormon practices are odd. I just don’t believe another religion was neccessary at all since Christianity in it’s pure form is our answer. That said, I think most mormons take the good out of the religion and don’t pay much attention to the nuttyness.
You will not ‘hear’ God speak in ‘sundry ways and diverse voices’ (as in the days of old prior to the Cross) because of what is said in Hebrews chapter one. To raise some fella claiming to be a prophet adding to the revelation of God in ‘these latter days’ is to contradict the Bible. But then, a false religion trying to seem like restored Christianity would naturally try to sow the doubt seeds that Chrisitianity is incomplete without this false prophet, in need of restoration for ‘true’ and final salvation. It is but one more of the heresies at the heart of Mormonism.
Mark 4
10 And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
That is Christ Himself speaking. You are just as ignorant as the rest of them.
Good grief.
Oh, please.
ALL I need to know about Christ is brought to me through His Word and the Holy Spirit.
If I were locked in a prison today, my soul would be safe without the ministering of men.
The answer to life and its purpose has been written on my very soul. And I certainly do not need a mere mortal to further my communion with Christ. I’ve already been saved, thank you very much.
Truth is truth. I’ve read His words. I’ve even spoken directly to Him and received His answers.
The difference between you and me?
I chose NOT to call you ignorant. That is beneath me.
There is nothing further to say.
Are you trying to be funny?
Do you spend your nights dreaming about how to best attack those evil Mormons? Do you know the meaning of the word futility?
Great. Glad not to hear from you anymore.
Lame.
There is nothing futile in declaring my love for Christ and the truth of His being.
Now... spending hour after hour trying to defend one prophet after another is futile.
Where do you get that much energy to stay that frustrated with pent up anger? Do you ever take a break to just let your soul BREATHE?
