I don’t have any problem with that quote. Again, nowhere does it say the Lord would not call a prophet or that one is unecessary, or that the Holy Spirit “trumps” a prophet. The Holy Spirit affirms the Prophet.

The Holy Spirit affirms Christ.

Jesus Christ is our final prophet, priest, and king.

Do you want to surplant him with a fallible old man? I certainly don’t.

The writer to the book of Hebrews is writing to Jewish believers and He is pointing out to them that they do not need to succumb to the temptation to go back to the Mosaic economy. They do not need to surrender to that temptation to go back to the old Judaistic religion. But now we have Christ, and He is the full and final word from God. There’s no need to go back to anything else.

It's patterned after Solomon's temple. They represent the 12 tribes if Israel.

2 Chronicles 4:

3 And under it was the similitude of oxen, which did compass it round about: ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about. Two rows of oxen were cast, when it was cast.
4 It stood upon twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, and three looking toward the west, and three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east: and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward.
5 And the thickness of it was an handbreadth, and the brim of it like the work of the brim of a cup, with flowers of lilies; and it received and held three thousand baths.

“I confess I know little about the Mormon faith, and I have never known any Mormons. If most Mormons are not privy to the “deeper things”, then how are they to be criticized for them?”

They are taught that God was once a man, like us, and grew into being God.
They are taught that we, too, can become gods.

I, like you, probably have some doctrinal differences with certain denominations that would not prevent me from voting for them for public office.

I do struggle with voting for someone who believes he will one day become a god.

Oh, I think readers can easily see that Mormonism Apologists are all about denigrating Orthodox Christianity in order to lower standards to where their false prophet will be adorable.

It is also a hallmark of the deceivers functioning as Mormonism Apologists that you try to mischaracterize and put words in the mouths of those who are a thorn in your deceitful sides ... like that despicable effort to sow discord between me and my Catholic Christian brethren:
"MHGinTN I am sure is equally opposed to the rich symbolism found in the Catholic Church- in its rites and sacraments; I'm sure he believed the DaVinci Code was an accurate representation of Catholic leadership.

This despicable characteristic to sow fabricated accusations by your Mormonism apologists is quite telling, and found in far too many of you to be coinkydink. Telling too that it happens so often on Romney threads ... tell MItt his team strategy to condescend and shame any opposed to Mormonism is not working for we do not shrink from the field just because of your false accusations.

I'm sure a new strategy can be devised short of seeking to shut us up via threat to FR like your friend tracer has openly done.

Those are good points. And they all have answers. The books you mention bring out some of the bad in polygamy. What you are not acknowledging is that many in polygamy thought there was a very good side to polygamy. Just yesterday I talked to a 90+ year old spinster Mormon who wishes that polygamy had never been abolished. If there had been polygamy, she could have had a husband and children.

For the sake of discussion, let’s say that polygamy was wrong, and therefore Romney shouldn’t be a nominee for president. Romney had nothing to do with it, and he would dread the practice coming back.

Not only that, because Calvin had a man burned at the stake for heresy, should no Presbyterian be the nominee? Because some Medieval Popes were corrupt, does that mean no Catholic should be the nominee? Because the Southern Baptists supported slavery and segregation until very recently, does that mean that no Baptist should be the nominee?

It is easy to point fingers, and it is easy to only see the worst in others.

Polygamy was not of God. No matter if an old spinster might have shared a bed with a woman and another man or not.

Mormons claim that God directed Joseph Smith to commit polygamy. Mormons believe Joseph Smith is the Prophet that brought about the “restoration” of all things pertaining to God.

No one claims that John Calvin was. John Calvin was a man, and as such he was a sinner just like you and me and Joseph Smith. I and John Calvin recognize our sinfulness and see that we are in need of a Saviour. Joseph Smith claimed he was better than Jesus.... See the difference?

Thanks for posting that. The history of the 5 pointed star is rich in Christian History. The modernization of it including a circle around it to fit occultism is a relitively new scheme. And lest we all forget pointed stars...

and BTW, here is a good reference for the symbolism of the various Nauvoo temple stones.

Sun - Celestial, Moon - Terrestrial, Stars - Telestial. What an occultic bunch of nonsense

To those who understand the reference of Corinthians 15 see that there are varying degrees of the Glory of God.

40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

It's not just Paul either:

Hippolytus (Early Christian) states that "Pythagoras came to Zaratus the Chaldean, who explained to him that there are two original causes of things . . . two daemons, the one celestial, the other terrestrial'' (Hippolytus, Refutation, I, ii).

the doctrine of three degrees of Heaven is found nowhere in the Bible.

See my last post.

Also, 2 Corinthians 12:

2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.

Resty, I was going to post this earlier about the growth of the LDS Church, since there are some here perplexed how it could possibly happen.

Here it is, watch it through to the end, pretty interesting. It represents new Stakes and their growth around the world.

To: DanielLongo; Jim Robinson; colorcountry; FastCoyote; MHGinTN; Pan_Yans Wife; svcw; Elsie; ...
Jim Robinson,

Since MHGinTN brought you into this discussion, I would like to point out that there has been a concerted effort by colorcountry; FastCoyote; MHGinTN; Pan_Yans Wife; svcw; Elsie; Colofornian; and GreyFoxx39; (I got the list from post #3) to attack the Mormon Religion every time Mitt Romney is mentioned. The attacks have grown increasingly shrill and virulent with each passing thread.

What concerns me is the general degradation in the political discourse, not just on the Mitt threads but on all of the political candidate threads. If I didn’t know any better, my first reaction would be that we have been infiltrated with agents, whose sole purpose is disruption. If that is the case the agents have succeeded.

Is there a purpose for Free Republic beyond endless attacks and counter attacks?

No other Church except the LDS Church makes salvation contingent on belonging only to their particular congregation.

1 Corithians 1:
10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, abut Crispus and Gaius;
15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.

You haven’t noticed that liberals control libraries and their content?

You rely only on what they provide? You do not do outside research and look for materials that your libraries don’t possess?

How can you be certain you aren’t getting a jaundiced view of the topic you are researching?
