When Mitt Romney appeared last week (via closed circuit from California) before the Council of Retired Chief Executives meeting in Washington, he faced kindred souls: rich Republicans who had managed big enterprises. Yet the second question from the audience was whether Romney's Mormon faith was hurting his quest for the Republican presidential nomination. He replied that about the only people who brought up his religion were members of the media, an answer that simply is untrue.
Romney is asked about Mormonism wherever he goes. In my travels, I find his religious preference cited everywhere as the source of opposition to his candidacy. His response to the former chief executives that only reporters care about this issue sounded like a politician's tired evasion. Romney was either too obtuse to appreciate his problem or was stalling because he had not determined how to deal with it. Contact with his advisers indicates that it's the latter.

Jews and others have similar objects that they do not display to the world. Nothing to argue about, but only something that we believe and certainly something that harms nobody....
That wasn't my comment, that was Semperfiwife's (I don't go around checking for logos on undergarments :() )
But an APOLOGY from me to to you, to Elsie, and to others here re: the bad example I have been, flawed critter/work-in-progress that I am. I need to keep in mind that Satan is the "father of contention."
Well, I'm sure the APOLOGY is necessary for others, like Elsie, but you haven't offended me.
Thanks so much for posting that! :-)
I think that I may have seen some of those things when I was given a long personal tour by a Rabbi, but it shouldn’t carry over here to Fr. Think about all the stuff related to religions that we post here.
Let’s see, you ask if I just suck this stuff out of my thumb . . . what is it that you disagree with:
1) The President has a great social impact than a Senator.
2) The Mormon Senators and Congressmen are from Western States.
3) The Western states are the least religious in the country.
Opposing a cult is not “bigoted” and it is not “nonsense” and you go ahead and nominate Romney. But you are handing the election to Hillary if you do. He’s the only candidate that I wouldn’t vote for against Hillary and I’m about as conservative and Republican as you can get. I know a lot of people that won’t vote for Romney either. It adds up to percents of the Republican base, too much to overcome especially this election cycle. Forget Romney. Wrong candidate, wrong time.
Mine. You don't have to be a Scot to enter the Kirk of the Keys any Sunday. You can pray with us, share the Lord's Table with us, even join us. Mile Marker 52 on the way down the island chain, if you know the Keys.
Gee, Saundra, maybe you could post a thread commenting on how persecuted mormons are, huh?
Way to go, Resty. Think you can get this thread moved to religious forum now that it’s served the purpose intended and is now getting out of Mormon control?
First, I disagree with your statement that, "A Senator has almost no effect on the public." That is patently false.
The Western states are the least religious in the country.
What do you base that assertion on? Specifically, what do you mean by the "Western States?"
Opposing a cult is not bigoted and it is not nonsense and you go ahead and nominate Romney
Spoken like a real bigot. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a world religious denomination with temples located throughout the world on every continent, except Antartica. It is not a cult.
Hes the only candidate that I wouldnt vote for against Hillary and Im about as conservative and Republican as you can get.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn that you are a troll. I consider myself a conservative and would never associate myself with such intolerance and untruths. Go back to DU where you may receive more support for your twisted views.
Or claim it isn't "scriptural", demonize the source and shoot the messenger. ;)
What is wrong with Harry Reid has nothing to do with his religion. He is a corrupt, incompetent, lying politician. That's his problem.
Pan Yan’s Wife certainly comes to mind...there are others. Perhaps tracer might go back through his posts and make his apology less general, if it is sincere.
Welcome to the “hit the abuse button” world.
I've talked with other LDS with the same sentiments.
I'm also disappointed that porno mags and video (on the TV,ten feet away from the Book of Mormon in the nightstand drawer) are available in Marriott hotels.
I appreciate your transparency.
I only have a problem with people telling me that I'm too dumb to know what I believe.
Trace, ya gotta admit many people (pick whatever denomination you like) who call themselves "Christian" don't know their history. It's not an exclusive club. It just happens to be that when most historic Christians finally get to know their "true" history (whatever that may be), it doesn't cause some frightening crisis of faith. On the other hand, while that it also no doubt true for most LDS, you can't get around the fact that over half of "ex-Mormons" list "LDS history" (not "bad-boy" Evangelicals in threads like these) as the reason of departure.
Finally, since you seek understanding in your post (I think you have worthwhile motivations there), just know that I only have a problem with people telling me that I'm too dumb to know what I believe... is a two-way street.
Just as you don't like others inserting XYZ as your beliefs, I'm sure every member of every church didn't like Joseph Smith claiming that EVERY creed of theirs was "an abomination" to God and that their leaders were/are "corrupt." (First Vision LDS Scripture account) That's basically like telling them that they have 0% discernment to know what is and what isn't "abominable" to God; and it's like telling them that their trust in leadership was entirely messed up.
Now since Joseph claimed this happened in the 1820s, well before any non-LDS person ever said one single word about "Mormons," who exactly was the original provocateur? (Do you see what I'm saying?)
That's a friendly invitation and I'd take you up on it if it weren't so far.
Did the LDS church in Massachusetts increase their numbers when Mitt Romney became governor?
Spoken like a real bigot. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a world religious denomination with temples located throughout the world on every continent, except Antartica. It is not a cult.

So was the cult of Baal. It was a religion throughout the known world and was the religion of Hannibal (son of Baal) and the Carthaginians. Guess those anti-baal bigots will have to answer to the great god “open mindedness.” I hear he lives around the planet Kolob.
Bicycle and a freight train. Very few people are impacted by their Governor on a personal or social level, while many are impacted by the President. Night and day in my opinion in terms of influence.
