“..Mitt on September 28 swallowing the Media Matters line hook, line and sinker and, incredibly, SENDING A PRESS RELEASE TO THE FAR LEFT HUFFINGTON POST WEBSITE:

“Governor Romney would disagree with the negative characterization of those men and women who serve with honor and distinction in the United States Military. There may be disagreements with individual opinions, but no one would ever dispute the fact that those members of the military who disagree with the war have earned the right to express that opinion.””

That paragraph is the only part of the press release I could find there and there is no such press release on Mitt’s website.

The quoted paragraph only rejects a common canard liberals throw at conservatives. It doesn’t say Rush is guilty of it, in fact it doesn’t even mention Rush. If you look through what Rush has said the past couple days, you would find him saying the SAME THING, denying that conservatives view anti-war soldiers that way.

I want to see the full text of the press release, until then I suspect the quote in the huffy post is also taken out of context.

‘Romney DID NOT defend Rush. His first statement was a condemnation of Rush and went right along with the Dems stupid rants. The statement has been posted for the world to see and nothing Romney does or says now will change it. He is on record as jumping into the fray on the Dems side and he will own it and go down in flames. What a putz he is.’

First I heard of that, do you have a link?

“I notice that after condemning Mr. Limbaugh, Mr. Romney called MR. HEWITT rather than Mr. Limbaugh to straighten out the situation.”

Romney didn’t straighten out anything, he only went on somebody’s show and started afresh, with a new position.

Romney did not apologize to Rush, he did not even acknowledge his campaigns attack on Rush or the Huffington Post statement.

Mitt Romney has not mentioned any of this scandal, he is letting it hang in the air, read the transcript of the Hewitt show, this Rush statement is never addressed, read Rush’s transcript below.

Can Romney be allowed to throw Rush under the bus and then just ignore it, and casually reverse message without even recognizing this major conservative scandal involving him, Huffington Post, and Rush Limbaugh?

“””RUSH Transcript:
“I didn’t talk about this last week, but Mitt Romney issued a statement much like he issued against — who did he throw under the bus? Oh. Larry Craig. He issued a statement: That’s reprehensible what Limbaugh said, horrible, whatever it was he said — and then later in the day somebody from his office called our office. “We just found out that this is a smear, and Mitt will say this if he’s asked about it.” He hasn’t been asked about it, so his statement still stands.””””

Rombot simply doesn’t have a mind divorced from focus groups, polls and the Liberal cesspool he governed.

Romney knew damn well what was being said. Rush called his office and was told that this was Romney’s statement but that he would change it if asked. In other words he wasn’t going to change it because it was the right thing to do, but woudl change it only if he was AKSKED to do so. He wasn’t asked as of Rush’s show yesterday but he changed it later when he saw what a bone head move it was. Romney KNOWS what was said, he knew it at the time it was said and he has no excuse. My assesment of you still stands, you are a believer who refuses to see what a low life Romney really is.
1) I seriously doubt that Mitt knew what was said by Kevin Madden until after the fact.

2) Romney's office called Rush's office.

3) Romney was asked by Hugh Hewitt (see above).

4) It does appear that Kevin Madden either screwed-up or was taken out of context. I haven't investigated that to see which it was, given that it was The Huffington Post I don't think I need to waste time on it.

A friend of mine says Romney needs more of a spine. But, I have been surprised by the people I know who do support him. Especially considering their different political views.

I know that is disappointing for those with an agenda but those who are rational will not get worked up. Don’t take the bait.

He abandoned rush on the word of MSM/Democrat party slander piece and then after he was informed of how badly it reflects on him he tries to cover it up and restate his position. Also one of the companies he founded is going to open the Door to our secure military networks for the ChiComs for the sake of some money.
He instinctively takes the side of liberals and his business legacy is collusion with our enemies. I believe that is anything but staunch conservative principles.

Huffington Post caught Madden off-guard and not fully informed.

I think Kevin Madden made a mistake in this case.

He made mistakes alright.
1.)He gave the Huffington post an interview. Why would any self respecting conservative spend any time talking to those idiots.

2.)He answered according to what his political calculations indicated would be the most politically expedient thing to say at the time. He didn’t want to offend liberals.

3.)He obviously doesn’t know Rush or he’d know that what the Dems and thier mouthpieces in the media accused Rush of doing flies in the face of his character.

4.)He either doesn’t know what his boss, Mitt feels regarding other conservative voices like Rush or he doesn’t know how his boss would react to the controversy so he’s an incompetent boob. If he isn’t an incompetent boob then he was accurately reflecting Romney’s opinion which leads us back to the original problem. Romny abandoned Rush in favor of Hitlery Clinton’s propaganda organization.

Romney has severely injured his campaign, imho. How many listeners does Rush have? How many do you think have been listening recently, because of this unbelievable situation?

Romney had an opportunity here, and he failed. Horribly.

I notice that after condemning Mr. Limbaugh, Mr. Romney called MR. HEWITT rather than Mr. Limbaugh to straighten out the situation.

Actually Mr Hewitt called Romney.

“Rush was discussing it today, and e-in-box began to fill up with complaints that Mitt Romney had abandoned Rush. I shot off a query to the Romney campaign: What is this all about?” From Hugh Hewitt.

Huffington Post hit Madden with a question regarding Rush's statement without providing the full context in which it was said and once Romney realized the mistake Madden had made, they corrected it.

What kind of plastic - fake a$$ "conservative" doesn't know that Rush would never bash the military? Even if you are correct it still doesn't do Mitt any good, all it indicates is that he's completely out of touch with conservatism in the USA in 2007. I'm not sure if you realize this or not, obviously Romney and his campaign don't but Rush has been a conservative voice with a huge national audience for a couple of decades or so. If they are so conservative then why don't they know what the original conservative pundit thinks of our military?

Dear donnab,

“Actually Mr Hewitt called Romney.”

Great.

Upon learning that he’d slandered Mr. Limbaugh, he should have done the honorable thing, hung up with Mr. Hewitt, and called Mr. Limbaugh directly to apologize.

From what I’ve read he left it to “his people” to call “Mr. Limbaugh’s people.” Coward.

It may have been GOTCHA but if one operates based on principals instead of political expediency then the GOTCHA game rarely works.

Fred reacted based on his character, just as Mitt did, I believe. If I’m wrong then it means Mitt and his campaign simply react based on a calculated outcome. I think we’ve had enough of that in this country.

Dear donnab,

“Actually Mr Hewitt called Romney.”

Actually, upon re-reading the article, Mr. Hewitt didn’t call Mr. Romney.

Rather, it appears that Mr. Hewitt e-mailed Mr. Romney, and Mr. Romney called in to Mr. Hewitt’s show.

Instead of doing the honorable thing of calling Mr. Limbaugh to get the facts straight and to directly apologize.

“The New News Cycle: Romney and Thompson Defend Rush”

Ah so Mitt changed bis mind? Habit forming I understand. I wonder if that happened after he learned the facts of the case or if it happened after he saw HIS initial reaction sitting next to Thompsons’?

Either way it shows that Mitt was willing to throw a conservative under the bus before learning the facts, whereas Fred....well Fred wasn’t.

Speaks VOLUMES about both men.

yes I should not have said called....but I did include the quote that is was Hewitt who contacted Romney. Makes me wonder if Hewitt had not contacted Romney to begin with if there would have been any statement from him.

Nothing has been done, Romney has not addressed this, he has not called Rush, he has not shown that he is even aware of Rush’s anger at him, he has not mentioned his press release to the Huffington Post, no apologies have been given.

As Rush said on his show Romney threw him under the bus and has not fixed it.

Read post 44, you are pretending that Romney came out and cleared up his attack on Rush, that is not true.

He took it and is still running with it, he has refused to address his attack on Rush Limbaugh.
