UNITED NATIONS (AFP) Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said here Wednesday that the United States was in no position to launch a war against his country but warned that Tehran would retaliate if attacked.
Speaking to reporters on the margins of the UN General Assembly session, he said: "Our analysis is clear: the US (already embroiled in the Iraq war) is not in a position to impose another war in our region."
But Mottaki said Iran was ready to defend itself if attacked.
"We have informed two years ago the Americans what will happen if they make such mad decisions against our country and they know very well," he added, without elaborating.
The United States and its ally Israel have not ruled out taking military action to stop what they see as Iran's covert bid to acquire nuclear weapons.
But despite the threat of a third round of UN Security Council sanctions over Tehran's refusal to halt sensitive fuel work, Mottaki said his country saw no reason to give up what it considers as its right to the peaceful use of energy, including uranium enrichment.
He also said that Tehran had sought to reassure its Gulf neighbors that the Iranian nuclear program was peaceful and not a threat to them.
Mottaki also sought to clarify earlier comments that Iran would fill the vacuum created by a withdrawal of US forces from Iraq.
"If foreign forces leave Iraq, which we do believe they have to leave, regional countries are in a position to protect stability in the region."
And he dismissed charges that Tehran is backing extremist forces in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon.
"We have a constructive role in the region...Iran was and is always part of the solution in our region," he said. In the case of Lebanon, he urged outside powers not to interfere and instead help the parties "to reach a compromise."
Iran rejects Western charges that it is trying to build atomic weapons under the guise of its civilian nuclear program and insists it is entitled to pursue uranium enrichment as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Washington also considers Iran a state sponsor of terror, has accused Tehran of arming insurgents battling US troops in Iraq and of equipping Lebanese Shiite militia Hezbollah, which it considers a terrorist organization.
half the time i dont know where these articles come from
from some movement site or overseas
Has doofus boy noticed that despite the public discourse, the world is aligning with us?.
Did he notice that Israel made Syria look like fools?
Has he heard from Mr Zarkozy?
...agreed on the similarities. Once in a while, I post them from the Iranian state-owned papers: the Iranian source. But the statements from Iranian leaders do sometimes look very similar to those of Americans who want to put off our defense for another day of high revenues for importers (freight fuel cost fears) and social program bureaucrats.
Oh really?
You're ***going*** to be attcked, mohammed,if you continure with your plans to develop a nuke. And you had *better* pray to that filthy child molester that you worship that it's the US that does the attacking because if the attack falls to Israel, she won't be using aircraft carriers and M-16's...I can guarantee you that. And as for retaliation,I suggest to you that retaliation would be impossible after an Israeli attack.
Can we please blow up Iran’s nuclear capability before several hundred thousand people die.
I’m all topsy-turvy after reading this. Does iran take its’ cues from the dnc or is it the other way around?
Can we please blow up Iran’s nuclear capability before several hundred thousand people die.
M-boy is suffering from an optical delusion.
Manouchehr, my pig-humping friend...exactly what position do you think we need to be in to attack you?
When Imanutjob gave his speech at the UN last week the point of no return was passed. It is now not “if’ but “when” the shoe drops on Iran.
at the end of they as always follow cash in all things
This is the dictionary definition for the phrase, "Whistling by the graveyard."
They threatened us with 40K suicide bombers here in the states two years ago.
...agreed. ...and power—an intertwined desire. Cultures bent on conquering don’t change their policies related to power very easily. The denazification campaign in Germany and other countries after WWII required many man-hours of work.

So the threat is still good and presumably the plan still operational.
Phoney patriots=hatriots=giving aid and comfort to the enemy=traitorous scum.
With two degrees of seperation left over, we have connected the Dem dots.
