Spending: As promised, President Bush has vetoed a bill calling for a big expansion of government health care for children. And as expected, he was immediately criticized for it. But his decision was a wise one.
It was only the fourth veto in Bush's seven years, but we hope it won't be the last. As delivered to the White House, the State Children's Health Insurance Plan, known as SCHIP, was very bad legislation that would have created a massive new entitlement not for the needy, but for the middle class.
Democrats had portrayed SCHIP as a plan "for poor children." So Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid predictably called the veto "heartless." But it was nothing of the sort.
In reality, the bill was a cleverly concocted scheme to move the U.S. toward a nationalized health care system for all — the kind that Europe and Canada are now trying to undo.
Ironically, it was a Republican Congress that passed SCHIP into law in 1997. The idea then was to help poor families pay for their children's health care — a noble goal, even if you don't like the idea of the federal government getting further involved.

Show how DEMs are using "children" in the name of promoting themselves - Every member of the GOP should have such talking points, use them in every interview - Tout how it was the GOP who started this program and has funded it....under the pure notion of assisting low-income families....Then point out how it is DEMs looking to move this to middle income adults...(under the protection of children).
You could hang this one hard on DEMs in very short order....if the GOP would just engage on the issue. Quick talking points you repeat over and over....(don't just say "they?DEMs are playing politics"......BE SPECIFIC! Say they are USING children.
If hillarhoids wins---and that's a big "if", she no way in hell is gauranteed the job---she more than likely will have to go up against a Repulican-controlled Congress. Americans may be stupid enough to vote her in for president, but they are not stupid enough to give her control of two branches of the federal govt.

All the news of the veto I saw made Bush look like the grinch that stole health care. The dims calculated this whole thing knowing it would make their side look like the good guys.
They were even showing a lot of republicans saying the prez was wrong.Then again I live in in Ma. so what can you expect.Has anyone seen any postive coverage on the local news??

For the GOP, it’s best to let a lame duck President take the political heat, rather than Senators and Congressmen who will be up for re-election in 2008.
Therefore, I look forward to more vetoes from President Bush, to protect taxpayers from long-fingered Democrat pickpockets.
Someone making $60k/year can certainly provide insurance for their children.
