WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida, who took over as the first Hispanic chairman of the Republican National Committee earlier this year with a pledge to reach out to minorities, is expected to resign the post early next year.

great minds......
Or Donald, even ;)
How about Newt? :)
Agreed. Newt.
That would be the quickest way to win back a little of the support he lost them.
If Steele were in charge, the GOP would be cruising at full throttle.
I don’t really know what most in the GOP would think of Steele leading the RNC, but, I said after the 2006 elections that I would like to see Steele in the post.
Not Newt. He would be great working in a top role for the leader of the RNC, but not as the leader of the RNC. I think his ideas and sense of strategy could be very useful, advising the GOP leader. He seems to not want such a role. Our loss and his.
ALL of the Washington D.C. club has become power-hungry and elitist. All of them. They don’t know what nor care about life in “flyover” country.
YAY!
Martinez managed to do more harm than all of the Republican Party’s adversaries.
My mother used to tell me, “Don’t put off ‘til tommorrow what you can do today.”
Give the job to Newt or DeLay.
Takes the GOP awhile doesn’t it?
He (Martinez) should never have been Chairman of the RNC.
He’d best be replaced by a true Conservative, and should be replaced NOW, not next year.
We need the Republican Party Conservative. Oust all RINO’s.

A national chairman for either party is mostly a figurehead. Others do the day-day-operations.
The chairman is brought in to be a rainmake, i.e. to rake in the contributions from the heavy hitters as well as the average GOPer.
However, Martinez' term has been marked by a rebellion among donors and he has made about as much rain as there is sweat on an alligator swimming in the Okefenokee Swamp.

My Florida senator Mel Martinez is a p.o.s. amnesty turd.
During the amnesty deal I sent him an e-mail stating my opposition and he sent me a request for a donation to the D.N.C.
He has done nothing for my state or my country as far as I am concerned and has hurt the republican party.
He only got in there due to GWBush and Rove and their grande strategy of tying GOP fortunes to pandering to Hispanics and illegal and the illegal alien lobby. What a mess.
Good!
