As the Burmese military brutally cracks down on a popular citizen uprising demanding democracy the question on many minds isso what is the world going to do about it?
From the trend visible so far the answer is simplenothing at all.
Nothing, that is, beyond the usual condemnations and pious appeals for "peaceful dialogue" and the posturing at international forums in support of the Burmese people.
Nothing more, that is, than dispatching a lame duck UN envoy to negotiate with the paranoid Burmese generals. Negotiate what? Funeral services for the innocent victims mowed down like rabbits on the streets of Rangoon?

People are easy to replace. Large balances in swiss bank accounts are a bit harder.
I think the author was far over the top on the war we are fighting but much of the article was worth the read.

The “world” never does anything at all to combat tyranny. The Brits and the U.S. do something when it’s in their national security interests and suffer criticism from around the world and from the own homegrown leftists for doing so. Is it any wonder that they don’t act more often?
Fact it, tyrants are pretty safe to as they please in today’s world as long as they don’t engage in hate speech against any of the left approved minority groups, that is.
Which is more support than the people of Zimbabwe have gotten from the UN.
