Anytime the government creates an entitlement program, someone will find a way to take advantage of it.

“Wonder how many of these affluent residents receiving subsidies are US citizens? I bet none are US Citizens, they are not and never want to be...only US Citizens have to worry about obeying the Laws!”

While I absolutely don’t agree with subsidizing somebody who makes $200,000 a year, if you read the article you’ll see they are not violating any laws.

.....anchor baby explosion .....

Steady fox, they're close to maximum anchor baby production right now. The 5 large will go the anchor babies' anchor babies, which of course, due to a glitch in the legal department, are no longer anchor babies, but the children of old-time yankee American citizens.

I think the really sad thing is Republicans have bought into this welfare mentality as well..their corporate masters demand it, and many recieve “coporate welfare” from The Fed, State and especially LOCAL government (driving up property taxes, I.M.O.)!! It’s pathetic. If these corporations can’t survive on their own, then they should die and let their competitors move in, it would be best for everyone..overall.

My nephew runs a grocery store in Virginia Beach. He says it is impossible to get and keep good help because the minute you tick the locals off or ask too much of them, they quit and run back to welfare. He and his wife were stunned when they picked up a grocery receipt from the parking lot that showed a large amount of steak and shrimp purchased on government food dollars.

I also wonder how many other low-income benefits they tap into??

Just what is the income cap that qualifies for these rental units?

Come on now, US citizens break the law and soak up government benefits too. I bet most of them earning the really top incomes in Fairfax County’s government assisted housing are US citizens because US citizens are more likely to be able to get the kind of jobs that pay that well. I live in an area with an average family income probably not much more than one third the average in the county they are talking about in this article. The part of the state I live in is mostly white, and there are huge numbers of people abusing the system. My state used to rank highest in per capita percentage of people on SSI benefits. It may still be that way. Often everyone in the family is collecting a check and they’re getting every other kind of government benefit they can bilk us out of. There is so much abuse. I’ve worked as a government lawyer for many years now and I’ve dealt with an awful lot of people who in many cases are abusing the handout system and most all of them have been whites born right here in the USA to American parents. Per capita within racial demographics there will be races where their respective populations are more likely to abuse the system than others. But there are a lot more whites in this country than there are any other races and overall there are a lot more whites, American citizens no less, who abuse the system than there are people from other races or other nationalities who do it. It’s not just the aliens. I don’t know the percentages but I bet they’re only receiving a tiny portion of all of the various handouts we give. White Americans are the ones receiving the majority of the benefits and among those are plenty of folks who are just abusing the system, bilking us out of every penny they can get.

I wonder how many of these affluent residents receiving subsidies are US citizens.

I can't speak for Fairfax, but in Leesburg, some subsidized housing units (decent but not spectacular) are residences of police officers and low-income retail workers (all white U.S. citizens).

On the other hand, yes, there are plenty of "minorities" living in the subsidized housing, including quite a few who speak Spanish well but don't understand English. And some of them just don't know how to play by apartment complex rules.

There are income caps at initial qualification but these caps go away afterwards, if income increases unexpectedly.

Why is it every time someone gets a job you couldn’t pay me enough to take on, everyone complains about how much that person is making?

The article doesn't seem to be complaining about how much someone is making. It's making the point that people who at one time needed subsidized housing are still there even after they no longer need it. Seems like a legitimate gripe to me, and I would think it would be for every tax payer.

My own educated guess is these people are public sector employees and are politically connected and probably tend to be minority. Unfortunately this article omits the obvious which is where are these high income public housing squatters making their money. Betcha anything they work for Gubbermint on some level. Feds pay quite a lot to some employees

There is so much waste, fraud, and abuse in these government run programs, yet the Dems want to takeover running healthcare for the nation.

Democrats love a big fat sloppy bureaucracy. Makes it impossible to establish accountability. They just shovel money out the door like a big fat sloppy kiss

"County housing officials emphasize -- and a review of county and federal housing rules confirms -- that they have broken no rules by letting tenants remain after their incomes rise. They say every household met eligibility caps when they entered the program. Officials also say that to turn families out would punish them for attaining self-sufficiency...."

Umm if you're giving them money to live they are not self sufficient..

Not public sector employees, not politically connected except to the teat, and minority only in the sense that the adults were not born in this county. This is Fairfax County.

especially if there is a waiting list for those who do qualify. In my town there is always a waiting list to get into subsidized housing.
