Defendant Had Ties to DOT Project (More NM Corruption Richardson Cronies)
Albuquerque Journal ^ | September 30, 2007 | Thomas J. Cole

The newest defendant in the Metropolitan Courthouse construction scandal worked briefly as a consultant for the state Transportation Department on its two planned office redevelopments in Santa Fe.

Michael Murphy, a construction manager, is among five defendants in the Metro Court case in Albuquerque to be linked to one or both of the DOT projects.

Murphy is accused in a grand jury indictment returned Aug. 23 of using his job as construction manager to take part in a conspiracy to skim $4.2 million from the courthouse construction. He has pleaded not guilty.

The Transportation Department acknowledged Murphy's consultant role on its projects in response to an inquiry from the Journal. The agency hadn't previously publicly disclosed his connection to its headquarters and District 5 office redevelopments.

Transportation Secretary Rhonda Faught said she notified the FBI of Murphy's role after he was indicted. She said the FBI told her not to "advertise" Murphy's involvement.

Murphy was given confidential bid documents to review despite the fact he never had a contract. He wasn't paid for his analyses, then refused to return the documents to DOT, Faught said.

Murphy has worked on numerous public and private construction projects across New Mexico and has long been active in political circles. He is a friend of former Senate President Pro Tem Manny Aragon, another defendant in the Metro Court case, and his company contributed at least $8,500 to Richardson's re-election campaign last year.

It is a shame that a state with such good folks is ruled by this twit. Yes, I said “ruled” - that’s the way he operates. For Richardson, the Land of Enchantment is the Land of Graft.

A perfect addition to the clinton crime cabal!

My wife and I drove through New Mexico a couple of times a few years ago. I commented to her that the highway department didn’t seem to know what they were doing.

In Albuquerque we had to drive 5 miles to get on the freeway even though we were in the middle of the city. That was 5 miles AFTER we had driven underneath it. They don’t believe in on ramps to service the inner city traffic.

In Gallup they had at least half the western part of the interstate torn up at one time. They were working on both sides at the same time so there was one lane traffic both directions for miles and miles.

Richardson learned well from his master.

It makes me feel sorry for our neighbours to the west. Is there a chance of replacing Richardson with someone who isn’t a sodding crook?

With corruption like this Richardson is certain to be on Hillary’s short list for AG.

Bill Richardson’s biggest contribution to public service was acting as Monica Lewinsky’s employment agent while serving at the U.N. (Billy Clintooooooooooon’s guy in the big apple!)

Sadly the vast majority of residents happily voted for King Bill even after the corruption of his first term. I think many of them are too poorly educated to check into who they are voting for and many are just happy a Hispanic is ruling our state.

Quite honestly King Bill could stand on a street in your average NM town selling horse sh** for $10 a clump and he’d have plenty of takers because the King said it was good.

I’ve been in this state 5 years and am more appalled every year. If my husband’s job wasn’t here we wouldn’t be, that’s for sure.

Many of us believe there’s been a deal cooked up between King Bill and Hitlery already as to what position he will take - VP maybe? There’s no way he’s electable at this point.
