"He said people should be able to keep 100 percent of the fruits of their labor. Income tax is an example of the government controlling people, he said, as are the draft, prohibition on drugs, seat belt laws and other regulations."

Tell me Ron Paul, do you enjoy having a military to defend you? That costs money. Do you enjoy sending out letters and having them get to were you want them to go? That costs money. Do you want police to patrol your street, firemen to put out those fires, sanitation inspectors to make sure that Sushi restaraunt you love is up to code, and Air Marshals to make sure planes are safe? Well then, pony up some taxes, cause things don't come free.

Liz Viering and her husband Peter, from Stonington, Conn., said Paul's opposition to the war in Iraq is the major reason they are supporting him. "Money spent on wars of choice takes money away from other programs," she said.

That just doesn't sound conservative; the speaker sounds like a big-government fan who can't bring herself to support Dennis Kuicinch.

Me too. I know some folks on FR like this guy, but he's just another version of Ralph Nader. I mean, let's get real. This guy will never get any votes.

A lot of good your socialist programs are going to do you if you're dead at the hands of terrorists, lady.

Paul's call: end the IRS

Congressman Paul is conspicuously light on providing the details of how he would then fund the legitimate functions of government.

Demagoguing the IRS and the current stupid system might be fun, but is not exactly helpful if you don't have a replacement that is in line with constitutional principles and the realities of a modern economy and nation.

OK. NICE slogans.

HOW does Paul plan to do any of this. What replaces the IRS? Or do you all assume we can simply put a “closed” sign on the whole US Govt?.

OH, that right! In your angst to hate everything and everybody, you Paulbots forgot all the things you WANT the Govt to do. Things like Border Security. the Military. The FBI etc.

It not 1776. You Paulbots got to finally grow up and deal with the world AS IT IS, not as you delude yourself into thinking it can be.

Politically the IRS is an easy target, but the true culprit is the 16th amendment to the Constitution. Aside from allowing Congress to create the IRS and the truly indecipherable tax code it has done enormous damage to the founding principles of the country.

Those, like John McCain, who yearn for campaign finance control don’t reveal that it is the power given to congress through the 16th amendment that causes people to attempt to influence lawmakers with financial contributions. It’s not the money that corrupts it’s that power that people are trying to mitigate that corrupts. It also allows for the redistribution of income thereby segregating the population into payers and slackers. The class envy that ensues is corrosive.

The indecipherable tax code loosens citizens attachment to the country’s law. This disrespect for the law is the one place that the political institutions of the country are in most peril. President Lincoln pointed this out in his Lyceum Speech.

Although there is much to disagree with in the opinion of Congressman Paul, he is generally correct on this topic.

Look, this guys is calling for an end to the Federal Reserve the Department of Education and he's an anti-income tax, anti-foreign intervention commie.

He's against the North American Free Trade Agreement pro border security.

A great-grandfather who delivered more than 4,000 babies as a doctor in Texas, He voted against the Patriot Act he wants smaller government. This idiot even refused to accept government insurance such as Medicaid

As a lawmaker, he's chosen not to participate in the congressional pension program. Wow!

He says were on the verge of a bankruptcy, the dollar is crashing, the foreign policy's in shambles and the people's personal liberties are under attack, when we all know everything is wonderful under our current leadership.

He's living in the past, always talking about the principles of our founding fathers, cutting out government waste trim taxes bla bla bla...

He wants to gut government!

And he is pro-2nd Amendment?

LOL!

What a wacko!

Interesting that every response by ‘conservatives’ opposed to Paul here is either disagreeing that disbanding the IRS is a good idea (yep, they’re ‘conservatives’ all right) or unable put forth anything but a diatribe about Paul and his followers as ‘Paulbots’ or some other insulting comment.

Not that there’s anything wrong with being all for the IRS, or unable to form a cogent argument. However, folks that fall into those categories are generally allied with the jackass party.

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.

THANK YOU! Thank you for proving my point about you Paulbots. You cannot answer a single serious question. All you can do is emote.

Paulbots "answer" to everything:

"Ignore all facts and reality, just drink the Paulaid you stupid infidels".

>>He said people should be able to keep 100 percent of the fruits of their labor.<<

Implicit in the 2nd treatise of government is that there will be costs for government.

We do need a President who will work to again balance the budget but just focusing on the revenue side won’t do it. As our current President has demonstrated.

to not protect our rights from external threats and to not fight back in self defense when war is declared on you twice is malpractice.
