Report: Williams Officials Given Undue Bonuses (DC)

During Mayor Anthony A. Williams's final months in office, his personnel director improperly gave 28 top appointees two sets of bonuses totaling more than $525,000, according to a report by the D.C. auditor.

The 16-page report says Lisa Marin approved higher bonuses than the mayor's office recommended and lacked required paperwork and authorizing signatures. Supporting documents, some of which were eventually submitted, are required to verify that the employees did outstanding work and qualified for bonuses.

Among those awarded bonuses were senior Williams administration officials, including the city administrator, the police chief, three deputy mayors, the chief of staff, agency directors, the technology officer, the attorney general and the chief medical examiner.

Although the separate payments were rewards for different years of service, the auditor's report says, most of the combined bonuses violate a city personnel regulation limiting annual bonuses to 10 percent of salary in a 52-week period.

As director of the Office of Personnel, Marin distributed the bonuses as performance incentive awards in two parts: one paid in August 2006 for work done in 2005 and one in October for work done in 2006. The city's fiscal year ends Sept. 30.

This is government at its best! I believe most governments in the US are corrupt. The siphon off funds,direct funds to friends and supporters and in general just waste and take advantage of the tax payer. The real working American gets very little in return for the tax they pay. It is time to have an Independent body investigate them all and it is time to put them on the polygraph and truth serum.

I could only assume from that that he is a Democrat?

I wrote the author of the article and asked why this is such a big deal.

I then told her that the reason polls have the media trusted by less then 10% of the population is because the media either doesn’t tell us the truth or tries to hide the truth.

I then asked her why in 22 paragraphs she doesn’t mention the party affiliation of the official.

Finally I asked if Williams was a Democrat.

Cannot wait to see the answer.
