I have been noticing recently how many of the old time Freepers are showing up after a percieved absence of a long time. Things must be looking up.
Then you up and quit.
Does not compute
How refreshing!
Good luck to you. You'll start lurking again in a couple of weeks and we'll see you again.
Later. Write if you get work
Best of luck to you.
Sorry to see you go.
Take care.

DOn’t go. Only 4 or 5 freepers will remain.
Colombia, Canada, Mexico, The United States, England, Germany and France have all elected Conservative Presidents. Some of this must have happened in the time you were in on FR.
As for it doing all the good it can do, didn’t somebody in the nineteenth century say we should close the patent office because just about everything had been invented?
I have been around here only marginally longer than you. I know your feelings, as I have had them myself.
Perhaps a few weeks away, from posting will help. I know it did for me.
And then when I came back, I decided only to reply to those with whom I found agreement.
The greatest thing that happened to me, was to quit thinking of myself as a "Republican" and more so an "American". Not only is it liberating. It places our responsibility as citizens back into perspective. At least it did for me.
Free Republic is still a great forum for like minded thinkers. The only problem, which isn't a problem really, is that it has grown so much that one has to wade, at times, though the muck to find like minded thinkers.
At any rate, keep the faith.
Congratulations on the best written Opus I have seen here and have seen a few.
Jack:
If you think we are not having an effect, remember this:
It was the Swift Boat Veterans that made the difference in defeating Kerry, not the RNC or President Bush.
It was Freepers that helped reveal Dan Rather for the corrupt journalist that he is. It was not the White House nor the President fighting back, it was ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
The internet is relatively new. It is finding its legs.
Places like FR are where the investigations will take place and where the action will come.....we are citizens and we can take action.
In the past, it was just not in our nature nor interest to do things like storm Terry Schiavo’s hospital room. But those days are fading.
FR is the birthplace to a new political revolution that will return the people into real power, pitting them against the political structure and sometimes against our goverment agencies.
Take a break from the chaos that is the daily news. We all need to do that to retain our perspective on life. Family, friends, children and loved ones are important to retaining our conservatism.
Erik
It seems the good, they die young.
You’ve at least got to stay around to see the Astronomy picture of the day. Get on the APOD ping list! You know you need those cool astronomy pictures for your desktop wallpaper.
People establish relationships. Some people, including you apparently, feel a need to tell others their reasons for doing things. Why didn't you keep your thoughts on this topic to yourself? Likely the same reason Jack didn't keep his thoughts to himself on why he was leaving.
It would be a pretty lame forum if people didn't post their thoughts, wouldn't it?
[I fear that if I stay engaged I will become cynical an bitter. These are not traits that I consider admirable, and taking a harsh and honest look at myself I think I’m already slipping down that path]
You post reminded me of last years episodes of “House”. There was a young black doctor who had to quit because he didn’t want to become like House, in the end everyone quit. They quit learning from a brilliant doctor because they didn’t have the strength to maintain their own identity and integrity.
What is sad about making his decision is that he ultimately affected others to join him in his decision.
In short, your decision to quit this forum would have best served if you just abandoned our cause without fanfare, I just hope that others don’t follow your direction.
Better still, take a month or two and go to the Islands, the mountains, or the beach and take a break. Or simply turn off your TV and computer (I have already done the former, and I occasionally do the latter). Let the accumulated daily taste of Liberal swill and outrage fade a bit as you rest and gain new perspective. Then come on back and rejoin the fray. You don't need to "live" here at FR, but you do need the insight it provides into the world and the enemy.
Don't let the bastards wear you down. That is how they plan to win - they wear you out with their incessant assault on reason and decency until all you want is personal peace and quiet. Then they will come in and ruin that. You really can't escape them, you know.
I was never on your ping list, but I thank you for your service anyway.
Let the world turn a bit.
As my old friend Cissie used to say: “What is to be will be, even if it never happens.”
I understand the frustration. I’ve found myself depressed when well educated people look at me with blank stares when I metion a current event, a world leader, an international threat, a terrorist organization...etc. and so I come back to Free Republic to soothe my soul that there are people out there that get it. I don’t post often, mostly just read and educate myself.
By the way there are days when I run into people who share our views and are just as anxious about the future of our country. The latest was a lovely lady at a party. She and I sat aside and had a very deep discussion while the party went on around us. I always mention Free Republic as an eductional tool and a way to connect with like minded folks.
I appreciate your state of mind right now, but hope you will miss us enough to return.
