GOODBYE, MARTINEZ

Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida, who was named general chairman of the Republican Party only nine months ago, has advised associates that he will leave the post as soon as somebody clinches the party's presidential nomination. That probably will come after the Feb. 5 primary elections next year.

When Martinez took the party post Jan. 19, it was expected he would stay on through the 2008 elections as the GOP's principal national spokesman. Many Republicans now grumble that Martinez has been ineffective in that role, partly because he has been drowned out by the many presidential hopefuls.

Kentucky lawyer Mike Duncan, who came on board with Martinez as chairman of the Republican National Committee, is expected to remain running day-to-day operations at national party headquarters for the balance of his two-year term.

What difference does it make? Republicans and Democrats all favor Big Government intrusion in our lives. Examples: the Department of Education, The No Child Left Behind act, Socialist Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Environmental Protection Agency, and federal tax laws and regulations. Democrats are socialists and Republicans are fake capitalists.

The parties are nearly identical on the only thing that really matters - size and scope of government. They differ only on certain red herring social issues, and they like to use the other side's stated positions to terrify their contributers into sending them large checks.

It's a wonderful con game, and it doesn't really matter which party wins as long as all the incumbents who play it remain safe. ;)

How do you get rid of Mel? The freaks on the national level support the incumbent no matter how icky. I really really want him out.

Don't hold back, Joe, tell us what you really think.

Frankly, I think you're being charitable. I'm sorry I ever voted for this nimrod.

Why wait Mel? You are a total failure and one of Bush’s biggest political mistakes. You couldn’t raise a dime and you chased the base away with your thirst to kiss the asses of illegal aliens. Just get the @#$% out now while lots of people don’t even know your name. The GOP missed its chance by putting this fool in that slot instead of Mike Steel. Maybe we can still get somebody who can do the job in there, but in the meanwhile Mel just go now!

Mel---- You are a total failure and one of Bush’s biggest political mistakes.

Martinez was a debacle but the BIGGEST mistake was naming cutesy-poo Kenny Melhlman to chair the RNC.

In between Kenny's incessant shopping for matched satin sheets at Bed, Bath and Beyond sales----he DID manage to leak top-secret WH data to his Log Cabin pals (God only knows who else got state secrets).

Kenster offered to resign over the latter--but GWB would not hear of it.

The presidential candidate usually chooses who will serve in this role once they get the nomination. This is nothing new. And given Martinez’s HUGE disconnet on amnesty has earned him so much animosity it’s affecting donations, I doubt even a pro-amnesty candidate would want to keep him as a symbolic head. As for the real guy running operations, he shouldn’t count on keeping his job either.

Now if we could get rid of him in Florida everyone would be happy.

“In my lifetime I don’t think there’s been a party head in either party who’s done more harm to the party .. his immigration stand, backed by the president and some high profile nominal Republicans, has been a total disaster.”

It’s my opinion that many folks that don’t pay close attention to politics associate the push for illegal amnesty primarily with Republicans.

Bush, Martinez, and McCain were the most visible players.

This stupidity will cost the Republican Party dearly.

I bet the lack of donation has more to do with this than anything else.

Now that Newt Gingrich announced that he wan’t running perhaps he should be offered the post. He seems very articulate and stands for principled conservative stances.

Yes, I recall. Just goes to show you, though, that holding one's nose a making the choice of the "least bad" still gets one an elected official who's bad. But I really cannot abide this man. He's a real Melvin. Funny, in a way, that his name is actually Mel.

Martinez is a disgrace. He should resign now. This stupid and/or corrupt man's presence is only hurting the GOP. Many will not donate as long as he is involved.

Newt would be great for the job.

If I am accurate, a “melvin” is when someone takes the back of your under ware and pulls it up into your butt crack.
A fitting discription for this moron Mel.

What a disaster Martinez was; and entirely predictable.

Get him out today and put Newt in.
