Teen Beaten By Girlfriend's Dad Faces Sex Charge

(AP) WEARE, N.H. First, a father was charged with beating up his daughter's boyfriend last week after learning the two had sex. Now, police are preparing to charge the boy with sexual assault.

The 17-year-old boy from Henniker, who admitted to having sex with his 15-year-old girlfriend, will "absolutely" be charged, police said.

Weare Detective Lou Chatel said the boy will be charged as an adult and could face up to a year in jail.

Both teens admitted to having sex during school hours on Sept. 10, but off school property, Chatel said. That afternoon, he said, the girl's father went to John Stark Regional High School and attacked the boy.

School had just let out and the parking lot was filled with students and parents.

The boy suffered cuts and bruises and received two stitches to his face. The father was charged with simple assault.

It all began that morning when the girl did not show up for her first class, even though she had been seen at school.

School officials searched the building, then put out a school-wide page. When the girl didn't respond, they called her parents.

Principal Michael Turmelle the parents helped search for their daughter, called her cell phone and coordinated with school officials.

The teens returned to school at the same time, through separate doors.

The principal said he's upset at the number of people who have sided with the father.

"We all work so hard to give our kids a safe place to go to," he said. "Any time we have an act of violence, it's very upsetting because it is completely antithetical to what we're trying to accomplish."

The girl and her siblings have transferred to another school, Turmelle said.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. High school students come and go off campus all the time. Work release off campus classes etc.

Ummm. YOU have no idea what you are talking about. That's according to set policy, and/or permission from a guardian. Why do you think those trips are called "releases?"

Principals cannot be held responsible for every minute of the day for 1000+ students.

That depends on the level of detail. Allowing them to wander off the property without justification/permission and not caring is negligence.

There are dozens of unexcused absences every day in a typical school, to think a principal could have them all arrested is ludicrous.

Never heard of "Truancy"?

Yes, those registered to attend a school can be compelled to attend, and if they are at the school during school hours they can be required to justify their leaving, and if they cannot, denied. They can also be prohibbitted from re-entering the grounds without going to a designated place such as the administration offices. Schools are usually pretty lenient about this, but they certainly have several relevant areas of legal authority - and several avenues for consequences.

The father brought some badly needed "old school" to his daughter's school. People are just reacting as decent Americans, who mourn the pathetically weak society we have become.

If the boy can be criminally charged then so should the girl.

For what? She had sex with someone over the age of consent. She didn't do anything illegal - he did.

"Wow. Seniors sexing up sophomores. How rare and newsworthy.

If someone was beaten every time that happened, a lot senior boys would be missing most of their teeth."

If a lot of senior boy were missing their teeth then there would be a lot less "sexing up sophomores".

> Are you going to kick your own arse for not teaching your daughter right from wrong.

Had I been so negligent as to not teach my daughter right-from-wrong, it is my ass who should get kicked.

Lucky for me, she has been taught from an early age right-from-wrong, and she has paid attention. I guess that might be why this circumstance hasn’t happened yet, ay, and probably never will. And I guess that is why I would probably act as I have predicted I would, were this circumstance to transpire here-and-now in my family: there would be no other logical response.

That said, I could easily foresee a circumstance where a young girl is not taught right-from-wrong, and how something like what happened in the story happened thru no fault of the young man in question — except probably that he hadn’t been taught how to be a gentleman by his Dad.

Alot of grief in this world could be avoided by people educating their kids in the right and proper way to do things.

I doubt it. The sexual urge is about as powerful as it gets, esepcially in teenagers.

Huh? What does that have to do with whether it was illegal? Or were you responding to someone else?

Anyone who thinks High school students can’t leave a campus at will is delusional. Schools aren’t prisons and cannot be locked preventing people from leaving only from coming in.
Yea! I’ve heard of truancy and maybe a hand full of students with unexcused absences are involve with truancy courts.
Students leaving campus will be recorded absent from their class and parents will be called eventually or sent a letter if the call fails to contact them. This is where the schools responsibility ends. I can tell you that most parents when contacted will say they will deal with the problem and that is where it ends. Some parents will not return the call or answer the letter and some when contacted will tell you not to bother them with this sh#t “that’s your damn job”

I would not convict him were I to sit on that jury. Far to the contrary, I applaud him.

I sure would. Otherwise that's jury nullification. We have laws and adults can't go around beating up 17 year boys - whatever the reason. And the 17 year old will also have to have to be held accountable for his actions as well.

...I wonder how many of the other 17 year old boys in that school need also to be charged....

Was the 15 year old minor girl involved with other 17 year old boys in that school?

“I wonder what this genius of a father is going to do when missy turns 18 and decides to marry junior.”

I think she’ll run away before that with such a violent father at home.

That sir is the essence of this whole argument. To expect 15 and 17 year old kids to show the restraint and maturity that this father can’t is unlikely if the parents haven’t instilled a since of virtue in their kids. They will do this sort of thing simply because they like it if there is no moral compass to keep them from it.

the girls brothers would have shared this responsibility of beating the crap out of anyone who touched their sister.

I can attest to that. The jerk never called or saw my daughter again after my son had a little-how shall I say it-chat with him. It works.

It’s possible that this kid could have had that same talk with another 17 year old doing his sister.
