Why We're Winning Now In Iraq

Many politicians and pundits in Washington have ignored perhaps the most important point made by Gen. David Petraeus in his recent congressional testimony: The defeat of al Qaeda in Iraq requires a combination of conventional forces, special forces and local forces. This realization has profound implications not only for American strategy in Iraq, but also for the future of the war on terror.

As Gen. Petraeus made clear, the adoption of a true counterinsurgency strategy in Iraq in January 2007 has led to unprecedented progress in the struggle against al Qaeda in Iraq, by protecting Sunni Arabs who reject the terrorists among them from the vicious retribution of those terrorists. In his address to the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki also touted the effectiveness of this strategy while at the same time warning of al Qaeda in Iraq's continued threat to his government and indeed the entire region.

Yet despite the undeniable successes the new strategy has achieved against al Qaeda in Iraq, many in Congress are still pushing to change the mission of U.S. forces back to a counterterrorism role relying on special forces and precision munitions to conduct targeted attacks on terrorist leaders. This change would bring us back to the traditional, consensus strategy for dealing with cellular terrorist groups like al Qaeda--a strategy that has consistently failed in Iraq.

I have to start also debating with-in MYSELF-AND get others to agree on TWO VERY IMPORTANT “ POINTS” concerning upcoming 08’

1) “WE” : as a PARTY, Leaders AND Us “in the fields” HAVE to be as UNIFIED as Liberals are when it comes to Voting TOGETHER-in the Primaries AND picking the BEST and

2) “WE”: All Leaders, Orgs, Conservatives HAVE TO START Voting “ to Win “ and NOT as we normally do: WITH OUR CONSCIOUS!

THAT was how Slick Willy got into the WH in the first place!

Add the support of the MEDIA behind all this and you have one hell of a Very large obstacle Conservatives always ; HAVE faced , face everyday & Election cycle, and will CONTINUE to face.

PLUS!- They BOTH (Dems & Media) Figure that If they REPEAT Their WISHED for "Realities" & Lies enough- that it will BECOME The "TRUTH" In a becoming ever more Politically illiterate and Uneducated Public.

When TRUE Conservatives speak- They will speak the Truth BECAUSE it is a Truth- a DEM will Repeat a LIE KNOWING It IS a "LIE": But to them NOT a "Lie":Just THEIR version of What Serves Them at: That PLACE, with THAT Party, at That TIME They are speaking! And WHO they are speaking TO!

I like these words (above), because they are clear and easy to understand.

My concern now is that we are so delighted with the progress that’s being made in Iraq that we will fail to see the next change in the terrorists’ tactics when they appear on the horizon. The terrorists and not dummies and they are very good at adapting to the situation. It’s only a matter of time before they come up with new ways to wage the war against us.

I don’t see any evidence of this happening yet, but it’s inevitable and I pray we are ready for it when it happens.
Right now the IED’s seem to be their weapon of choice. If you look through the list of casualties in Iraq the IED jumps off the page as THE major killer of our forces. We’ve made much headway in winning the hearts of the locals and enlisting their help in spotting those who plant them as well as devices already hidden, but it’s only a matter of time before they adapt to this and throw something new at us.

Of course the ultimate answer is to cut the snake’s head off, and that would be Iran. Seems to me like we are not doing anywhere nearly enough to address the root of the problem, Iran. In fact, I think we lost a lot of ground the week when their president was allowed to use American soil from which to spew his poison. He’s crazy and we know it, but when he shows up on Iranian TV spouting his craziness from our soil the effect is entirely different on Iranians and our enemies around the world from what it is on those of us here in America.

Well, many of us were aware of this "problem" before we invaded Iraq.

Remember we speeded up our plans to invade Iraq when Soviet President Putin called President Bush and told him Soviet intelligence sources had learned of plans by Iraq to begin attacks on America with WMD. That single, simple fact has been completely forgotten in the turmoil that followed. I am convinced Putin knew full well there were no WMD but that telling Bush this would put Bush between a rock and a hard place, damned if he attacked Iraq to head off the attacks and damned if he didn’t act to head them off and they occurred.

We would not have moved when we did absent that warning from the Russians. Had we had an intelligence capability of our own worth a tinker’s dam we would have known Putin’s warning was without merit. Thank you again Mr. Carter and the Church Committee.

I can’t, for the life of me, fathom why we haven’t acted to cool Iran’s jets by now. There is so many ways we could act to reduce their ability to mess with us, most of which don’t involve an invasion or outright war.

We're just "winning" now because it has finally become inpossible for the media to conceal the progress.

We've been "winning" it all along. It just doesn't happen overnight or in some prescribed timeframe like a TV show.

What the media has been doing here since the beginning is truly reprehensible.
