KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Map, News) - A Kansas City police officer was suffering a diabetes-related reaction when he apparently shot a truck driver at a convenience store, the officer's attorney said Wednesday.
The officer, who has not been identified by the Police Department, doesn't remember shooting anyone on Monday night, attorney John P. O'Connor said.
"It's obvious to me there was no intent on his part to hurt anyone," O'Connor said.

Then why'd you rip up his photo on live TV, beeeyotch?
Ooops. Got my O'Connor's mixed up.
It certainly seems that way.
Only the trained professionals should be allowed to shoot people. This officer either casually shot a man for no reason or, if we believe his story, doesn’t remember shooting the man he shot. In either case he should not be on paid leave. Regardless of his medical condition he should be off the police force and be prohibited from having access to a weapon.
Anyone holding a CDL, commerical drivers license, knows that DOT is very strict when it comes to truck drivers who have diabetes.
A gun is just as lethal as a truck.
Is there no mandatory physical required for police?
What's up with that? Are cops the "secret police" now?
Here locally a cop and a TV reporter were robbed and the cop's gun was taken.
That cop wasn't ID'd either.

NORFOLK
A WVEC reporter and an off-duty Virginia Beach police officer were robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday.
Reporter Patrick Terpstra and the officer, whose identity was not released, were approached in the 800 block of Shirley Ave. about 1 a.m. by two men. They were ordered to the ground at gunpoint, according to a police report.
In addition to cash and phones, the robbers took a handgun the officer carried, WVEC reported. It was the officers own weapon, said Officer Chris Amos, a Norfolk police spokesman.
There is no excuse for any diabetic who has a job like a cop, not to have some form of sugar with them at all times, while on the job.
Yep. There are only two possibilities here anyway:
1. This cop is a criminal and should be locked away.
2. This cop is a danger to society due to his illness. At a minimum he needs to IMMEDIATELY resign his position or be fired. Then we can decide if he needs to be locked away to protect society or not.
Either way, there is no excuse for him having a badge. I don’t care if they are trying to get him on disability. Pull that badge NOW.
Did the dog eat his homework too?
Diabetes related.....police officer....I don't remember that I killed a person....much saliva on the floor now, from many dogs, I mean lawyers.
If he remains on the police force, it should be a desk job with no access to a firearm as part of his official duties.
I don’t recall shooting those 12 cops at the “Click It Or Ticket Checkpoint”.
Must perform 1/2 dozen donut curls?
LVM, the truck driver wasn’t killed, he is doing okay. Doesn’t diminish the validity of your point though; there is chum in the water and the sharks are circling.
confectioners counts right?
It used to be very hard for diabetics to become police officers. My ex-boyfriend was told he would neither be able to be in the military or in the police, as he was diabetic. A friend’s ex-boyfriend (also diabetic) was told the same thing.
The reason? She had a diabetic event of some kind behind the wheel of a patrol car and wrecked it. No one seriously injured thankfully.
But she's no longer a cop.
I can't believe there's even any argument about this one. Cop should be an ex-cop yesterday. And the City involved should just save everyone some time and cut a really large check and a very polite letter of apology.
L
That has apparently changed. It seems the only thing we manufacture in this country anymore is criminals.
Whatever it takes to get that done is apparently okay.
Is there no mandatory physical required for police?
So many doughnut jokes ... so little time
.
Diabetes is a disease, not an excuse.
