EDINBURG, Texas (AP) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says a plan to build fencing along parts of the United States-Mexico border is a "terrible idea" that overlooks local communities.

The California Democrat says she's always been against the fence.

She made the comments during her trip to the Rio Grande Valley for the sixth annual Hispanic Engineering, Science and Technology Week conference hosted by the University of Texas-Pan American.

The Department of Homeland Security this week announced plans to erect about 370 miles of fencing and 200 miles of vehicle barriers along the U.S. border by the end of 2008.

Also during her trip to Edinburg, Pelosi touted legislation that would make it easier for some illegal immigrants to receive higher education benefits

You know, I'm getting sick of the way the leaders of this Congress pander to Mexican nationals. Why don't we build the fence then toss her over it, going due south?

Not a bad idea. She is truly not fit to hold public office. She is no friend of the American people.

I still think towers every two miles along the southern border would be cheaper...each with a Marine sniper in it with orders to shoot to wound. If the Marines see anyone with a limp, the orders change...

QUISLING: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.

U.S. Constitution, Article 4 Section 4:

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,

and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"

Invasion: \In*va"sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]

1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.

Pelosi is a little late in thinking it is a bad idea, it’s law. If the local communities and their commerce can’t survive because we secure our borders then let them move their communities and commerce to Mexico.

I suspect most of them have been making a really good living off American taxpayers and are not eager to see the cash cow fly away. Students from Mexico cross the border and go to school in the states at taxpayers expense. I have seen for myself that there were “towns” on the border that were pretty much just some buildings for P.O. Boxes.

They come across the border, sign up for welfare and come back once a month to pick up the check. I am tired of Americans having to subsidize Mexico’s poverty and corruption, it’s absurd. Any protest illegals might make will be met by either my contempt and indifference. Quite simply, they are protesting in the wrong country and we need to send them back to the right one.

Barbed wire. Ditch. Land mines. Groin-biting dogs. Severed heads on pikes every mile.

Proven effective.

Too bad that most of the 'interests' in Washington are too self-interested to come up with a workable idea. Instead, they are willing to sell out the sovereignty of the nation for financial or political interests by legalizing millions.

It would be interesting to find out which lobbyists are paying which interests in Washington to keep pushing for amnesty for illegals.

We need a full, independent investigation to find out, but we have no representation to get one.

It would be interesting, also, to subpoena bank records for offshore accounts of those ‘interests in Washington’.

As Judge Judy frequently says, "Follow the money."

The Washington elected -- both parties -- continue to show their incompetence in dealing effectively with the border situation. They are more interested in the financial or political interests than in maintaining our national sovereignty. They have not only permitted, but also enabled and encouraged, the invasion by millions of illegals.

The southern border get most of the attention, but the northern border (and possibly much of the coastal area) is also problematic, as well:

Feds Find Gaps in Northern Border By DEVLIN BARRETT – 17 hours ago WASHINGTON (AP) — A smuggler could easily carry radioactive material or other contraband across the northern border into the United States, government investigators have found. The Government Accountability Office sent out investigators to test how easily they could transfer large red duffel bags at unguarded and unmonitored spots along the more than 5,000 miles of U.S.-Canada border. The GAO, the investigative arm of Congress, described in a 13-page report to be delivered to Congress on Thursday how easily they were able to penetrate the border at several...

I dont believe Ms. Peloshi is a friend of the USA. I googled Pelosi and Communist. She served on the Executive Committee of the Socialist leaning Progressive Caucus. The website of the caucus was hosted by the Democratic Socialist of America until 1999.
