RENO, Nev Federal agents raided 11 McDonald's restaurants in northern Nevada and made dozens of arrests Thursday as part of an investigation into illegal immigration.
Agents for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made at least 56 arrests in Reno, Sparks and Fernley after raids at the restaurants and a franchise corporate headquarters in Reno, agency spokesman Richard Rocha said.
"They are people suspected of being in the country illegally. As far as I know, they were all McDonald's employees," he told The Associated Press.
The investigation began five months ago and was sparked by an identity theft complaint, Rocha said. A local law enforcement agency then gave ICE information that illegal immigrants were working at specific McDonald's restaurants, he said.
Lisa Howard, a spokeswoman for McDonald's Corp., based in Oak Brook, Ill., said the company had no comment on the arrests.
"This is a local situation with a local operator," she said.
The raids drew immediate criticism from Reno Mayor Bob Cashell and activists, who estimated the number of arrests to be closer to 100.

yes indeed, McDonalds does knowingly employ many illegals, and like many other companies they run their political influence activities in Washington through a variety of trade associatons which are primarily lobbyists.
for example the association of chain food restaurants (all the expected suspects including mcdonalds) and the american meat institute both supported (pushed, paid for, threatened, extorted) Amnesty in both 2006 and 2007.
you have to poke around on the lobbyist sites to see what positions a given food/resto corporation actually support. the associations are their proxies.

“You can’t deport 12 million people”
... you won’t have to ...
Just 3 or 4 years ago my local McDonalds employed High school aged kids that reflected the racial breakdown of our community which is mostly white, with about 12-18% minority including Hispanic. Also employeed were a few elderly people earning a few extra bucks.
Today the manager of that resturant is the only non-hispanic. Every employee and I mean every employee is hispanic. Yet the racial breakdown of the community has chaged very little. My sons elementary is the closest school to the McDonalds and the largest minotity is Asian. I find it odd that the Mcdonalds is 100% Hispanic.
Last time I ate at BK, the guy taking orders knew only two words of English. “No pro-len” (No problem). And my order was totally different than what I had ordered.
Last time I ate at KFC, I asked for extra gravy - the lady didn’t know what that meant - and gave me more potatoes. I told her I didn’t want more potatoes - I wanted extra gravy. She smiled and gave me some mac and cheese. I said “Gravy. I want more gravy.” (and tried to keep my voice down, but was quickly losing my patience.) She started trying to find an employee who spoke english. I lost it. “Is this the United States of America or MEXICO?! Why doesn’t anybody speak ENGLISH in this establishment?” Everybody stopped and looked at the ‘outsider’ who was losing it.
I left, and never went back.
You’re not the only one that has has this type of experience. I stopped patronizing all fast food restaurants because of things like this.
I live in this area and it sure has caused a BIG stink. I’m glad that the ICE agents did what they had to do. The sad thing is our mayor who I thought was more conservative is standing up for the “unfortunate families” and putting down the ICE raids. RIDICULOUS. Yes, this is a tourist area that requires a lot of food service people, maids, etc. But...many of them are here legally and many are not. Let’s glean the ones that are here illegally and let the other workers fill those positions.
A lot of people in the community are TICKED OFF and are glad that ICE did the raids. The owner of the majority of the McDonalds that were raided is an African American. They are really hitting him hard, but he is claiming that he “didn’t know”. The raids stemmed from a 5 month investigation into identity theft complaints. This is a HUGE problem and I’m glad ICE is cracking down on the business owners. It is their responsibility.
“Dunkin Donuts revoked the franchises of any who were found to be hiring illegals.”
As if their coffee isn’t enough of a reason to make Dunkin Donuts a regular stop! I will now have to double my visits to the local Dunkin’ Donuts.
