New Zealanders used to be some of the healthiest people in the World...
Too many Big Macs, now?
The disease is insidious, but not necessarily because of modern capitalism/agribusiness/hipster conspiracy theory du jour: it’s diagnosed earlier in life and treated more aggressively. Not even thirty years ago, folks had to take animal-source insulin or, well, assume room temperature.
I would, however, give some nod to many in my community who blame processed carbohydrates, etc. While I don’t think there’s this giant conspiracy from grain refiners, I would still like to see the arguments pro and con.
I’m also of the opinion that we tend to crave what we need, as long as we’ve gained exposure to said foodstuffs: for instance, a spinach salad can be incredibly-satisfying, as can, well, scrambled eggs, tomato juice, and a nice bowl of bran.
Have a great weekend.
