‘Prankster’ bartender goes one shot too far (serves shot of 'Pine-O-Cleen')

MELBOURNE, Australia - An Australian "prankster" barmaid who served a patron a shot of disinfectant has appeared in court over what her lawyers said was a "misguided" joke.

Melbourne barmaid Emily Craig, 23, served a client a single 30-milliliter shot glass of Pine-O-Cleen disinfectant in March during a 6 a.m. drinking bout at Evolution Nightclub, causing him to become violently ill, the Melbourne Magistrates court was told.

"This was a misguided joke at an ungodly hour," Craig's lawyer George Balot told the judge, according to reports Tuesday in local newspapers.

The patron developed ulcers on his skin after drinking the disinfectant shot from Craig, who has since lost her job and faces four charges of intentionally causing injury.

Surprisingly, the primary alcohol in the Pine-O-Clean cleaner is ethanol -— or ethyl alcohol -— which IS drinking alcohol.

This is healthier than what Kitty Dukkakis swigged on the campaign trail.

It’s a floor cleaner! No, it’s a bar drink! It’s a floor cleaner and a bar drink.

A commercial line from the very old Porter Waggoner television show,”Blackdrat laxative makes you feel clean from the inside out.”
Now that stuff in a shot would be a bad joke at an ungodly hour.

The sprays have ethanol, but there are all kinds of other products by Pine-O-Clean. If he got ulcerated skin, he might have got the one with sodium hydroxide.

Check this out.

Apparently, this b*tch is ready to roll over on others who are in on this, in the hope that she can get a break from the judge, a guy who has no sense of humor about deliberate poisoning.

According to this blog, Craig is pointing the finger at two security guards, in an effort to save her miserable, useless carcasse. Apparently, the case has been put on ice till February.

Bartenders: When you’re too drunk to tell the difference between your liquor and your cleaning supplies, it’s time for last call.

P.S. Emily, if you ever get another barkeep job, see if you can lay in a supply of Mexican puro de caña, 192 proof, and prank people by pretending it’s vodka. Basically white lightning with a tax stamp. I guarantee you’ll see some truly entertaining reactions to the stuff, but it’s at least slightly less dangerous than pine cleaner.

OK ...I’m convinced, the evidence is looking like guilty to me.

Hooray for the triumph of justice.

Interesting. I’ve seen the bums up here (in Canada, where we tax alcohol to make it “less harmful”) drink Lysol out of aerosol cans. Is that much less toxic then, say, Pine-sol or a similar pine cleaner, I wonder? This brings up the point, of course, that if the government hadn’t driven up the price of booze with taxes maybe those pathetic drunks would at least be drinking something meant for human consumption.

As to the bartender in this story, she was either malicious, and/or incredibly ignorant. Either way she deserves all the education on the subject she can, including a criminal conviction. Most people just don’t have any sense of humour about being poisoned.
