I can testify that this isn't all one-way traffic, since I myself moved in the other direction last month, albeit only for a week: when I was mightily amused to find that I'd been preceded by that totemic British institution of our times, the 24-hour Tesco. Have to confess that my motive for being there was to climb in the Tatras rather than meet Slovaks: but since half the population of the country seemed to have had the same idea at the same time (never seen such crowded mountains - Helvellyn on August Bank Holiday is nothing to this), had plenty of opportunity to observe the locals. Whom, I must say, I found perfectly charming and not much distinguishable from your average Brit, though a trifle unreconstructed in the matter of smoking. Since I gather that Bratislava has recently become a favourite destination for that lamentable British rite of passage, the stag party, I can well understand that the Slovak view of my compatriots could be rather less benign than I might wish it.
The ability of a ten year old child to identify the assailant as "someone who should go back to where they came from" combined with the police invoking race laws suggests that the assailant was nonwhite.

Maybe racism is being used instead of 'ethnic', to mean prejudices against other nationalities? My grandparents were all immigrants about a century ago, amongst thousands of East Europeans, an influx. My grandmother was Slovak and married a Russian. They experienced a variety of ethnic slurs and discriminations in the new country, but came here legally and learned the language and were happy to be here. Still, it was so difficult for my grandmother to find work to support her children after her husband's young death, that she changed the last name to an Italian sounding name and moved temporarily to NYC in search of work, which she found. It seems it's the influx of a large group unmotivated to assimilate that is causing the ethnic tensions.

Although the definition of 'race' has been undergoing cataclysmic (and many would say unscientific) changes, due in large measure to the politics of achieving racial spoils, one of the few specifics offered up in this article was that a ten year old child was able to quickly identify an immigrant woman, and other statements in the article suggest it's easily done in this matter as well. Perhaps they are more dark-skinned Gypsies? The article is careful to avoid such specifics so it's all a guessing game.

Weasels are frequently no more than garden-variety Marxist trash who sit all day in coffeehouses in their "Che!" t-shirts, complaining about how they live in a police state / Theocracy which doesn't allow them to have any fun. They don't bathe and their women are hideous.
