If Hillary Clinton gets the Democratic nomination and she certainly may not her first and most important decision will be her choice of a running mate.
While the choice will be hers alone, there will be enormous pressure on her within the Democratic Party to choose Barack Obama.
It would be a unifying decision, and parties always seek unity after divisive primary battles.
Putting Obama on the ticket also would be historic in that there has never been a black vice presidential nominee. It would also be fitting in that African-Americans are the most loyal voters that the Democrats have, and no Democrat can get elected to the presidency without an overwhelming black vote.
Putting Obama on the ticket might also make possible the winning of some Southern states that have large numbers of black voters but have gone Republican in the past. (The John Kerry-John Edwards ticket did not carry a single Southern state in 2004, even though Edwards was born in South Carolina and had represented North Carolina in the Senate.)
Obama said recently: I guarantee you African-American turnout, if Im the nominee, goes up 30 percent around the country, minimum. He said he could carry Mississippi and Georgia and put South Carolina in play.
While Obama was talking about what would happen if he were the nominee, even as No. 2 on the ticket, he might reasonably be expected to increase black turnout in key states.

#1 Reason.....high chance of someone REALLY wanting the first black or Muslim President....period. She doesn’t need him for the black vote...she’s got that sown up.
Weasley Clark....for sure.
Hillary hates blacks, so this will NEVER happen.
Of course she does. But they’ve been raised to always vote Democrat, so she can assume their votes.
If she needs the Oprah vote, she should pick Oprah as her running-mate. She’s no less qualified than Obama, and a nicer person.
1) Hillary will not be upstaged by anyone. Obama would grab way too much media attention. The MSM will be more interested in how Obama stands on an issue and if it differs from Hillary.
2) It is rare that the VP is chosen from other Presidential contenders. This goes for both the Reps and Dems. And they have not exactly been chummy so far.
“Shes a control freak. Both clintons are control freaks. They put personal loyalty and servile obedience in their subordinates above everything else. Theres no way they would let Obama have it.”
You are right about what you said, for some this will be a moment of truth though, because many who support her will not admit who the real Hillary is, they will be shocked when she rejects him for the reasons you said, but we will not be shocked, because we know her better then those who are her supporters.
Don’t worry about the Black voters getting upset with Hillary rejecting Obama, by the time Hillary gets through with him via her nasty mouth and even nastier spin machine the black voters won’t want him either. Somehow, Hillary will convince the voters in question that they have already had a black president and that she is married to him. Plus, Hillary’s people will really push the idea that Obama isn’t an African American, after all, his mom was white and his dad wasn’t born in the United States.
“Hillary hates blacks, so this will NEVER happen.”
That’s an interesting comment and contrary to what the adoring media says about Hillary. According to the left media, Hillary is their best friend. So how is it that you perceive the exact opposite?
She’ll pick someone like Bayh or Strickland... from a state that she’ll need to carry.
Her camp and Obama’s have too many irreconcilable differences. I’ve read where she actually glares at the man until the cameras zoom in. She cannot hide her animosity of him into the WH. She doesn’t know how to work well with others, and she certainly wouldn’t offer him the option of his own “pet projects” to keep him happy during her term in office. The two just don’t mesh.
