This is obviously not a hate crime and probably would not be persecuted as such were the race of the Victim and perps reversed.
This was a robbery gone bad they did not enter to kill a while person they thought they were going into an empty home.
Be careful not to fall into the trap of acting like those race pims Jackson and Sharpton who would be screaming hate crime were the situation reversed..
Thanks. I just put a few recent news storys up with that question to spawn discussion, give the Jena 6 situation.
I guess my final take is that I don’t like “hate crime” laws because it is immaterial. Punish the action, not the imputed thougts behind them.
Whether or not they had a racist bone in their bodies, the killers still shot this little girl. In the end, that’s all the crime that we need to make it a tragedy and to describe their punishment.
Hate crime laws divdide us, because it requries the law to get into someone’s brain. And we can’t do that, opinions and views always differ.
I disagree. They could have just ran out. That little girl was no threat to them. They thought so little of that 12 year old girl that they would rather kill her than allow her to possibly ID them. This indicates a pathological level of hate.

I respectfully disagree. I live outside of Chicago, and I can guarantee that if a racial minority broke into our home and attacked my wife and I shot the SOB I would be charged with a hate crime on top of murder or attempted murder; but if the perp were a white guy I’d be similarly charged but minus the hate crime.
