As I vaguely recall, it was that the senior Bayh’s wife died of breast cancer before that was so commonly discussed, People in IN will do anything for a Bayh after having defeated the Senior Bayh in 1980 in favor of D. Quayle.

HRC does not need Richardson or Obama: she already has 99 percent of their supporters on board. Bayh would help her sweep the Midwest, and she would win all but four or five southern and four or five western states.

Birch Bayh's wife died in 1979 which was after Betty Ford had gone public about having breast cancer, so that wasn't a scandal. I don't remember the details but I think it involved a woman who died under mysterious circumstances who was allegedly having an affair with Birch Bayh.

Birch Bayh and his wife were on the plane that crashed in 1964 which injured Teddy Kennedy.
