This is common sense, no?
China is giving us cheap goods in exchange for an education in industrialism and modern production.
You're one of the few people on the FR who understands this concept. China's foreign exchange reserve, though valued at over a trillion dollars, still pales in comparison to the $50 trillion generated and consumed by the world every year.
So, what China is acquiring, is the know how to develop an economy that can someday generate goods and services in the tens of trillions/year.
Communism is an economic theory not a political theory. (<—— notice the period)
Hop a long now.
“As Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, Hunter sent his team into the country-side to find a company that could still make high grade armor plate steel to protect troops against roadside bombs in Iraq. “My team only found one such company left in America that could handle the challenge.”
Hunter calls this situation a sad come-down for a nation that produced a bomber every hour at the Ford Factory in Michigan during World War II.”
Another reason why Duncan Hunter will be the BEST candidate to protect our national security.
Ping
Duncan Hunter is Da MAN!
The more I hear him talk and read articles about him the more it's clear he the best choice for America. Period.
“The more I hear him talk and read articles about him the more it’s clear he the best choice for America.”
Bump that!
Communism is NOT a theory. It’s a practice. Certain policies are enacted. No theory involved, though not practical, it is indeed practiced. I think don’t think the cold war occured due to the west’s fear of a theory.
Excellent point. They have learned well, their successes in the stock market alone point to that. And we think of them as.. as what? Sort of fair trade global partners? Hmm, to our folly.
I understand that. That wasn’t the issue. The poster was confusing Authoritarianism, Totalitarianism which is a political theory with Communism which is a economic theory.
Of course it has been practiced. And failed everywhere.
They are an authoritarian Capitalist regime.
Chinas friends seem to have adopted a rather jaded view of normality.
See #8. Many seem misled by their economic issues and successes, as a kind of sign of loosening of the totaliarism, as sign of normalcy. How wrong we are, at least those pushing for it.
Yes, it seems so now. And it’s seems we’ve helped.
I gotcha. I’ve actually seen numerous definitions of Communism, and I admit some include the word theories ;) Usually also including social effects as well. Here’s one example:
Black’s Law Dictionary, Sixth Edition, page 280
Communism: “A system of social organization in which goods are held in common, the opposite of the system of private property; communalism, any theory or system of social organization involving common ownership of agents of production of industry, the latter of which theories is referred to in the popular use of the word “communism” while the scientific usage sometimes conforms to the first alone and sometimes alternates between the first and second; also the principles and theories of the Communist Party. A system by which the state controls the means of production and the distribution and consumption of industrial products.”
Fredrick Engels (1847)
“Communism is the doctrine of the conditions of the liberation of the proletariat.”
That’s the word I was looking for “doctrine”. That a-hole Engels listed above would know :)
It cannot be called capitalism if the government has ultimate authority on who and how money can be spent and invested. It is socialism.
How Capitalist Transformation Exposes Holes in China's Government: From the Wall Street Journal
Did our government act illegally when it devalued our currency by a factor of at least 20 since 1933? Yes, actually, but it doesn't leave us in a strong position to complain.
