NEW YORK (CNN) -- Columbia University President Lee Bollinger excoriated Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday, going through a long list of documented actions and remarks by the firebrand Iranian leader and his government.

"Mr. President, you exhibit all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator," Bollinger said to applause from many of the 600 people in the room for a speech from the Iranian leader.

He cited the Iranian government's "brutal crackdown" on dissidents, public executions, executions of minors and other actions.

And Bollinger assailed Ahmadinejad's "denying" of the Holocaust as "ridiculous" and "dangerous propaganda." He called the Iranian leader either brazenly provocative "or astonishingly uneducated."

"The truth is that the Holocaust is the most documented event in human history," he said.

He said he doubted Ahmadinejad would show the intellectual courage to answer the questions before him.

"Iran will not attack any country," thae AP quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.

"Germany seeks no additional territory," Hitler stated after the Munich conference with Chamberlain et al.

One more reason why Ahmadinejad has been called "Little Adolf." And he's closer to a nuclear weapons capability than Hitler was.

was ahmedinejad on stage when the president said these things, or out of view and thus out of accountable reaction?

He was off camera, but when he started his speech he said he was insulted.

It is an outrage these braindead students gave him such applause. He deserved nothing but jeers.
A Republican or US military commander would have gotten a far colder reception at Columbia University than this loathsome dictator.

The people of Iran will never hear the rather weak criticism from Lee Bollinger.
They will only hear the thunderous applause of the terrorist sympathizing audience.

So what? None of this will get through the Middle East propaganda filters, which will report Nutjob was invited to one of the most prestigious American universities and they will dutifully report what he said.

This is just Bollinger covering his butt for a stupid decision in the first place.

I’m as conservative as they come, but I don’t understand all the fuss about allowing this nutjob to speak. By allowing his ideas to come out, don’t we form a better understanding of his madness? Isn’t the free-flow of ideas key to overcoming his lies?

We now know why he was invited.

The Persian leader is a homophobe and homo-denier!

Can't have that!

I rather expected a warm Columbia reception with a few softball questions and as such I am pleasantly surprised with the apparent tone of the q -n- a.

My hope is that the ‘petty, cruel dictator’ from Iran was significantly more surprised and in a very negative way.

“going through a long list of documented actions and remarks by the firebrand Iranian leader and his government.”

But none worthy of excluding him from the campus, like, you know...being pro-life, Christian or ROTC.

I truly don’t have a problem with controversial speakers giving speeches at American universities or other public forums. Look at the long list of speeches by Soviet and Chinese leaders that have taken place on American soil. It proves that they don’t have any rhetoric or ideas that we are afraid of.

However, I do have a serious problem with this dirtbag! Ahmadinejad has been identified as a participant in the seizure of our embassy in Tehran. This scumbag participated in an act of war against this country that was one of the worst black eyes this country has seen in the past few decades.

He should never have been allowed a visa in the first place—UN speech or not.

Exactly.

What is seen in Iran will not be what we see here.

Columbia and Bollinger will be used as propagangda.

It will look completely different in Iran.

It gives monkey-boy status and prestige.

It will be spun back in Persia as a type of victory over the infidels.

He mostly filibustered and championed the Palestine cause.

He is both a Holocaust and Homo Denier!

..and a whiner.

He should’ve been arrested and charged with kidnapping. Convicting him wouldn’t be that difficult.

Does anyone find it strange that Iran released a Columbia College Graduate they were holding recently? Wonder if some kind of deal was struck for the dictators appearance.
