My best friend in college was jumped by 5 black football players while coming home from a party. Friend was sober, they were all drunk. They screamed racism and the college (particularly the campus newspaper) believed them. Fortunately, the campus police were intelligent enough to think about the situation for about 2 seconds and realize that my friend wasn't stupid enough to try and kill himself by attacking five people that were all twice his size. Also, fortunately, it occurred at the end of the year, so it quickly blew over. Friend made it out with a black eye and a couple of cracked ribs, but his name was intact and none of racial foolishness stuck to him. Football players, as far as I know, got no punishment at all - and it wasn't for lack of ID as there were only a handful of black people attending the school.
I think that it's interesting that out of the small sample of people on this thread, that there are so many who have stories like ours. This means something, I think.
One of the unmentionable facts of crime statistics, is that black on white crime is hugely out of proportion to white on black crime, on a percentage and absolute basis.
If you want to discuss this fact, you are immediately branded a “racist”, for asking tough questions about culture.
