Yes, but it's the owner, not the breed. In theory, if the owner had had a bassett hound this was just as likely to happen. NO DOGGY PROFILING! /s

I am against breed banning absolutely, hands-down, it would be stupid and short-sighted. But the first step toward a solution is defining the problem honestly -- and the truth is that this is a breed mixed/breed problem. A bad owner with a wimpy dog = minor problem for innocent people. A bad owner with a lethal dog = major problem for innocent people.

All right.

Let's also be against species banning.

I'm sure some lions and tigers make nice pets and neighbors, too.

Let's not profile all lions and tigers because some have abusive owners.

I am against breed banning. I AM for major prosecution of people who do not take proper care of their dogs.

I have two large akita mixes. My husband died a few years ago and they are my protection. (I live in FL). They actually are sweet as can be. They NEVER leave my yard unless I have them on a good lead, period.

Even if they were to just develop Houdini habits, I would have them put down.

When you hear of these stories of pit bulls attacking people, there are always indications in the story that the person was not caring for the dog. This is where the prosecutions should begin, in earnest, not when a poor abused animal, on its twentieth escape in the neighborhood, finally hurts someone.

Man I love these pitbull threads, they bring out the good and the bad, the right and the wrong, the .... Oh well, you get the picture.

By the way, you’re wrong about bassett hounds. And about pitbulls too. The stats and studies have been done. Pitbulls should be banned if not shot on sight.

Ban pittbulls in residential neighborhoods. That is the only solution. You will never be able to train all the owners to keep these dogs safe. The only solution is to ban them completely.
