Cheney May Have Mulled Israeli Pretext For U.S. Attack On Iran
Haaretz ^ | September 23, 2007

Posted on 09/23/2007 8:12:16 AM PDT by Fennie

Newsweek Magazine reported Sunday that Vice President Richard Cheney may have considered a plan for Israeli missile strikes against an Iranian nuclear site in an effort to draw a military response from Iran, which could in turn spark a U.S. offensive against targets in the Islamic Republic. Citing two unnamed sources the magazine called knowledgeable, the magazine quoted David Wurmser, until last month Cheney's Middle East Advisor, as having told a small group of people that "Cheney had been mulling the idea of pushing for limited Israeli missile strikes against the Iranian nuclear site at Natanz - and perhaps other sites - in order to provoke Tehran into lashing out." According to the report, "The Iranian reaction would then give Washington a pretext to launch strikes against military and nuclear targets in Iran"...

>> PRESIDENT CHENEY is my DREAM!!

If only! As it is, we have to hope that when he retires to go fishing, he totes a good cell phone for when President Thompson needs the best advice. :)

Ya gotta know yer source. This is a left-wing Israeli source. Only two major errors here. 1) Congress gave the authority to act militarily to President Bush, not Vice President Cheney. And, 2) Israel has made if crystal clear that it will not cede its autonomy to act against Iran and its potential nuclear program to anyone, including the US.

Then, of course, this paper assumes that when and if Israel acts, it will do a sloppy job and need the US to pick up the pieces and clean up afterward. Other than those minor defects, this is a fine article. /sarcasm/

An entire news article about something the Vice President "may have mulled". Journalism has gone beyond self-parody.

MSM: "What could he be THINKING about!? Oh My God! OH MY GOD!"

Since this adminstration won't get in front of the cameran, the press can make whatever charges they want.

The press "can" do whatever they want. Meanwhile I am free to downgrade my opinion of them and their professionalism accordingly. This fact has nothing at all to do with whether/how often members of the Bush administration appear on Sunday talking-head shows, a statistic I neither know nor care much about.

I doubt when the strike comes on Iran, it will be limited.

The entire premise of the article is joke.

I couldn’t agree more. Cheney should be President. We need someone willing to deal with Iran. Right now Iran is playing us and the world. It looks like North Korea is folding without a fight because we only have a selfish little dictator there who really does care about his own skin.

Iran is not the same kind of animal and intends to dominate the Middle East and build its power till it can really attack Israel. If we desire the coming together of an Islamic super power ruled by Mullahs then that is exactly what we can hope for if we do not knock Iran down now. If we are so foolish to allow Iran to have Iraq which is essentially what will happen if we leave. Iran will then work to destabilize Saudi Arabi and push for Islamic revolution throughout the few moderate Middle Eastern Nations. We could very well see within our lifetime Iranian control of all of the middle east if we do not act now.

If anyone believes they will stop with the MiddleEast they do not understand Islam at all.
