If you think this photo is absurd then you’re not serious about airport security. As you said, everyone should be checked. If we start profiling people who look arab then they will just send through recruits who look westernized.

Most of the searching is absolutely useless unless one is going to catch the blatantly ignorant terrorist. What is the value of searching an old person who has a hip replacement especially when it is clear they do not fit even remotely the profile of terrorists?
Given what is allowed through current screening processes I’m certain that a terrorist or group of terrorists could easily breach security provided they are not on our watch lists or represent another red flag. The easiest way I see is with disassembled weapons. It only takes small amounts of seemingly innocuous metal or specialized ceramic or plastics to produce weapons just as effective as those used during the 9-11 hijackings. Even something as simple as a belt buckle modified to have a sharpened edge would be very effective for cutting throats.
I have seen many improvements where airport security is concerned especially in the increasing use of automation but the key thing we need to deal with the fact that they can get through our existing security. Tests have been conducted by DHS and they have succeeded in getting weapons and other materials through security checkpoints and onto planes during security assessments. We need to be ready for what happens the next time terrorists attempt to hijack a plane in the air because we aren’t going to stop it on the ground.
There doesn't seem to be a long history of caucasion muzlims blowing up airplanes...
And having a masked muzlim search another masked muzlim for explosives or weapons is something I'd expect to see on Saturday Night Live, not in an actual real life situation...

Yeah, but if you want to make sure that you don’t get “singled out” dress in arab garb, and watch the security folks avoid looking at you.
Profiling has to do with things others than looks. How much time is wasted by searching people like this nun, while people who DO fit the profile pass right through ? Just so we can pretend we are not at war with Muslim terrorists, most of whom DO fit the picture.
