Pardon Poor Larry Craig (Barf on Both Your Houses)
New York Times ^ | 23 September 2007 | Frank Rich

Posted on 09/22/2007 7:46:21 PM PDT by shrinkermd

I DID nothing wrong," said Larry Craig at the start of his long national nightmare as America's favorite running, or perhaps sitting, gag. That's the truth. Justice lovers of all sexual persuasions must rally to save the Idaho senator before he is forced to prematurely evacuate his seat.

Time's running out. The final reckoning may arrive this week. On Wednesday, a Minnesota court will hear Mr. Craig's argument to throw out the guilty plea he submitted by mail after being caught in a June sex sting in the Minneapolis airport. If he succeeds, there's a chance he might rescind his decision to resign from the Senate on Sept. 30. Either way, he should hold tight.

Not only did the senator do nothing wrong, but in scandal he has proved the national treasure that he never was in his salad days as a pork-seeking party hack. In the past month he has served as an invaluable human Geiger counter for hypocrisy on the left and right alike. He has been an unexpected boon not just to the nation's double-entendre comedy industry but to the imploding Republican Party. Gays, not all of them closeted, may be among the last minority groups with some representation in the increasingly monochromatic G.O.P. If it is to muster even a rainbow-lite coalition for 2008, it could use Larry Craig in the trenches.

On the legal front, Mr. Craig is not without his semi-spirited defenders, an eclectic group including Arlen Specter, the A.C.L.U., The Washington Post's editorial page and scattered Democrats. While there's widespread agreement that Mr. Craig was an idiot not to consult a lawyer before entering a guilty plea (for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor carrying a $575 fine), idiocy is no more a federal offense than hypocrisy, especially in Washington.

Frank Rich, as usual, spews his usual vitriol and dislke for conservatives anywhere and everywhere, but this time he refuses to take Craig's problem seriously. He does so with aplomb and humor which this issue surely needs.

Who knows what he really thinks, but he surely dislikes conservatives--especially social conservatives. But he is easy to read and, often, has a wicked sense of humor that may keep us humble.

The guy is a disgusting pig and his wife should
immediately file for divorce.
Why do idiots keep reelecting these pigs?

“Why do idiots keep reelecting these pigs?”

Because liberals want politicans and leaders who will validate their lifestyles, and do not want anyone to remind them there are absolute truths and a real human morality.

Do any of you think his wife didn’t know what he is?
She might be a sleaze to know but put up with it to
keep her position as a “SENATORS” wife.
If she knew she has no honor not to get away from him a long
time ago.

"Do any of you think his wife didn’t know what he is?"

She should have become suspicious when Craig had the adjoining stalls put in at their home.

Sure, he did nothing wrong. Yet he pled guilty and kept that arrest secret from his own family. The act of an innocent.

They just want to keep him there to use as a rallying cry in other races, and have a weakened opponent in Idaho to take out. This righteousness based on the rather cynical political motivation reeks.

Minnesota Officials Ask that Craig Restroom to Be Made National Historic Site

The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport restroom where Senator Larry Craig (R-IDA) was arrested for soliciting gay sex has become such a draw for tourists that Minnesota officials have requested it be named a national historic site.

“It’s almost useless as bathroom,” said airport spokesperson Fay Nisse. “There’s no privacy. It’s crowded with gawkers. Cell-phone cameras are popping pictures. People are crawling all over the stalls writing obscene graffiti everywhere. It’s a real circus.”

Nisse said that converting the restroom into a historic site would enable the airport to establish a more dignified atmosphere. “If it’s a national historic site we can exert more crowd control,” Nisse pointed out.

Preliminary plans for the site call for a $10 entry fee to help fund the brochures explaining gay-sex solicitation signals (including how to indicate who is to pitch and who is to receive), how to get it on in a three-by-five-foot stall, and a description of the historic event (including a floor plan and diagram of the stalls involved). Animatronic mannequins are slated to be installed to help visitors visualize the movements leading up to the arrest.

What did she know? And when did she know it?

You knew it all from even before the start, but it did not matter. He was to take her to the White House, and now she will repay, effective on the new Democrat Holy Day, Jan. 20, 2009!

Can’t GW just pardon Craig and make him promise to stay straight? Craig could then return amongst the other twelve gay senators and one lesbian senator and just pretend nothing happened.

Frank Rich and Larry Craig have more in common than meets the eye, and that is why Rich is supporting him.
