Mich. Jobless Rate Rises To 7.4 Percent

POSTED: 4:26 pm EDT September 19, 2007
UPDATED: 5:53 pm EDT September 19, 2007

DETROIT -- Auto and construction job cuts pushed Michigan's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate up to 7.4 percent in Aug., 0.2 points higher than July's rate, the state announced Wednesday.

The number of jobs in the state fell by 28,000, while unemployment rose by 12,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.

"Michigan's labor force in 2007 has declined in six out of eight months," said Rick Waclawek, a department labor market official, said in a news release. "These labor force reductions are likely related to buyouts and work force cuts in the state's auto industry, as well as the recent downturn in residential construction."

In all, the state had a civilian labor force of 5.004 million in Aug., with 4.632 million people working and 372,000 unemployed, the agency said.

August's jobless rate was the highest monthly rate since Sept. 1993, the department said. The rate stood at 7 percent in Aug. 2006.

Michigan's unemployment continued to lead the national rate, which held steady last month at 4.6 percent.

Artificially high wage jobs produce low demand. Adam Smith’s invisible hand.

Sticky wages... The wage does not adjust to clear the market because of the labor unions.

The muslims, or disgruntled youths as CNN calls them will be rioting soon as they did in Paris.

Well friend, check out RightMichigan.com this morning. The mole has gotten some Judas RINOs to provide her with cover. Get ready to ante up.

The tax hike on the way will be a gift to the mole that will keep on giving because it will solidify her creds with future president Hitlery Clinton. Secretary of ? in the next Clinton administration.

Word is that MEA headquarters is celebrating their glorious victory already and Tim Skubick is there to shill in person.

Hopefully, the military in our state will keep our tax-exempt status. Then we’ll only have to pay the increase on my hubby’s salary. Gosh I wish she had lost last November...

Geez, it sounds like Louisianna in the north. A corrupt, incompentent Governor and Mayor blaming small business for the unions lack of growth. Can you say Naggin and Blanco? Good thing Detroit is above sea level. There is one constant about Dems, they never can say sorry. This is one reason I no longer drive American cars, the money goes to freaks who worship Marx and Lenin.

I don’t see why what has happened to large great cities, shouldn’t happen to once large great states. Why shouldn’t Democrat, state worker unionized states go the way of Democrat, union factory worker cities, like Detroit, Lawrence, Lowell, Newark and others? The dynamics are the same. An entrenched Democrat party, extracting as much pay, positions and pensions as possible. Rome like flight of productive tradesmen and small businesses. And a large, ignorant bread and circuses serf/slave class.

Jenny Grantheft and the socialists in the state will correct high unemployment with higher taxes. (Sheesh,...and I thought Blanchard was Michigan’s worst governor)

Worst attorney general and worst governor in Michigan’s history.
