London-wide automobile ban is proposed [Yeah, that'll stop global warming]

LONDON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- A British study suggested that London's carbon dioxide emissions could be reduced 72 percent by 2030 if all automobile traffic was banned in the city.

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine noted the Greater London Authority -- the administrative body for London's 610 square miles -- is committed to a 60 percent reduction of the city's carbon dioxide emissions by 2025. But researchers said most climate scientists argue an even more rapid reduction will be needed to avoid dangerous climate change.

A team of experts from the LSHTM and the Oxford University Center for the Environment said a car-free London would achieve an 83 percent lower emissions rate than the current U.K. average. The proposal involves combining a car-free London with high levels of active transport such as walking and cycling.

The researchers said such an automobile ban wouldn't only benefit car users in terms of improved health as a result of greater physical activity but as active transport in the form of walking or cycling increased, more people would be willing and able to comfortably walk or cycle longer distances.

Somehow this makes me think of “Animal Farm.”

The first thing to do is to get all of the other animals out of their cars.

Then the only people to be able to drive anymore will be the “pigs.” Some are more equal than others.

Looks also like a great opportunity to open a rickshaw business.

Perhaps they know the wheels are starting to fall off the GW BS train.

Thing was never on wheels; it was on skids lubricated with lots of horse manure bought with the money taken out of your pocket.

Does that mean no fire trucks, no ambulances, no police cars, no limousines...

“What do they consider DANGEROUS climate change?”

Well, global temps have risen 1.3 degrees F in the last 100 years. They consider that dangerous and it was enough to cause full blown panic. So I assume they would want temps to drop by 1.3 degrees to get out of the danger zone. They believe the Earths climate should never change, not even by so much as one degree.

It means only the common man will do without personal transportation. Service and commerce vehicle will have to be allowed to some extent to keep a city of that size functioning. Of course Red Ken and all of the local and national politicians in or around London will be fully exempt

They could also cut their tourism, commerce and everything else by banning cars in London.
