The simple act of turning off the electricity for three days can be a great learning and growth experience for a family.

Hmmmm, well, I guess we're ready, since we went without electricity for about 7 days after Katrina.

Of course, it can get expensive since a lot of the food in the deep freezer went bad before it could be eaten.

In my case I have the means to can and or dry foods, including meats. If my gas is intact it would not be such a chore, but if I have to use my outdoor stoves it would be more of a hassle, but either way I have about three days to think about it and prepare to do it.
