Below are official results of the straw poll conducted before and then immediately after the Values Voter debate. The poll included 340 delegates hand-selected by 40 of America’s social conservative activists and opinion makers. Pre-debate numbers are located in the parenthesis and the post debate numbers immediately follow the colon. The vote by voting delegates indicated who they actually support, not just who they thought won the debate.

Highlights:

* Huckabee picks up over 100 votes from pre- to post-debate results, winning 63% in final tally...nobody else even close.

* Romney is the only candidate who got ZERO votes in post-debate vote...losing the 14 votes he had coming in.

* In the post-debate vote, Fred lost 75% of his pre-debate total.

COMPLETE RESULTS:

Mike Huckabee: 219 (119) Clear Winner with 63% Ron Paul: 44 (53) Alan Keyes: 24 (30) Sam Brownback: 18 (26) Fred Thompson: 15 (52) Duncan Hunter: 13 (8) Tom Tancredo: 7 (8) Rudy Guiliani: 4 (16) John Cox: 2 (1) John McCain: 2 (13) Mitt Romney: 0 (14)

I don’t have a problem if Huckabee can win, but I have my doubts he has the backing to get the nomination. Nice to see the RINO like Guilanna finishing where he belongs.

I’m not one of the idiots who doesn’t care because my American Idle candidate was a no show but it’s pretty hard to pick a winner when all agreed on most things.

I would vote for Hunter because he’s my guy but thats all I really base it on.

Interesting methodology

Mike Huckabee seems like a very nice and sensible man and a man with a very reasonable view of the problems that face America. I like him. But I don’t think he will win the primaries necessary to become the party’s candidate. Maybe if his last name were something other than “Huckabee,” he might have had a chance. :)

Ping the Pro-Romney ping-list (I’d like to hear them whine, and explain the absence of their favorite candidate!).

I watched the debate via the online feed, and was impressed with most of the questions and most of the answers. Forget the Republican nomination - no Republican is going to win the presidency without the backing of social conservatives. That constituency is non-disposable, and the candidates have another thing coming if they think fear of Hillary is going to be enough for these voters to endorse a pro-abort, pro-gay and/or anti-gun nominee.

Yeah, I know this wasn't the first and certainly will not be the last venue for conservative candidates to communicate their stance on social issues, but it was one of the best venues to do so.

after his performance

key word: "performance"

LOL

They all come, like sheep, to the call of anyone who puts on a debate - how many now - and line up like, as Fred says, a bunch of seals waiting for the next fish to be thrown.

They are, indeed, "performing."

What with cable news, blogs and the Internet - and personal appearances like Fred is doing to talk IN PERSON to the people = the never ending debates are anachronistic serving little purpose other than getting peoples faces ( the moderators) on TV -
