3/11: The Disinformation Campaign

Let us consider some facts that preceded the Madrid train bombings’ investigation:

The ETA members might have planted two other bombs.
A “Preventive Action” by the Police Thwards an ETA Attack in Madrid.

The Police have foiled an ETA attack on Christmas Eve in Chamartin Station [the Spanish capital has to main national railway stations: Chamartin and Atocha], in Madrid, due to a “preventive action”, as called by Interior minister Ángel Acebes. The two ETA members arrested, as it was known later, might have also planted bombs in two railway tracks in Aragón.

(Libertad Digital) The two members of ETA arrested on Christmas Eve in San Sebastián and Hernani (Guipúzcoa) wanted to carry out a massacre in Madrid, and furthermore, to extend the panic with other two minor attacks to railway tracks in Aragón.

Nevertheless, the most “macabre” act that those persons wanted to carry out was the one to be developed in Madrid on Christmas Eve. As the Interior Minister, Angel Acebes said, ETA’s criminals had planned that “on Christmas Eve, in a station like Chamartín, at 4 PM, full of travellers, the explosion happen”. “The National Police, with this operation, has avoided a tragic consequence of the terrorist action of ETA”, the minister added.

In the press conference held on Christmas day, minister Acebes supplied a detailed account of the plan. The first detainee, Garikoitz Arruarte, was arrested in San Sebastián, “before accomplishing his purpose” of introducing in the train a suitcase filled with 28 kilograms of Titadine dynamite. In addition to the suitcase, equipped with a timer, the detainee carried a gun and the train ticket for the Intercity between Irún and Madrid, that was due to arrive to the capital of Spain at 3:12 PM. Inside the suitcase, Arruarte carried a wig and camouflage apparel, according to the minister’s words, probably to disguise himself after leaving the bomb activated in the train and getting off.

The second detainee, Gorka Loran-Lafourcade, was arrested in an apartment in Hernani, the place where he lives. According to Acebes, this ETA member had achieved his purpose of introducing a similar suitcase in the same train. The macabre consignment was already activated and the timer was programmed to trigger the charge at 3:55 PM. The train was stopped in Burgos at 11:30 AM. All passengers were evacuated and the station closed until the EDU technicians of the National Police located and dismantled the device. […]

You can see how strikingly similar is this attack to the one that happened at Atocha station just 2 months and a half later.

Carod Might Have Come to the Meeting with the ETA Leaders in a [Catalonian] Government's Car but Without Escorts.

Three days after the newspaper ABC had informed in exclusive about the meeting between the councillor of Maragall and ETA leaders, the rest of media complete the information with details that make the encounter more sinister. Carod might have travelled twice to Perpignan [city in Southern France next to Spain, close to the Mediterranean coast] in a Catalonian’s government car, but without being escorted by the “mozos” [Catalonian autonomous police corps]. And the leak to the CNI came from ERC itself.

(Libertad Digital) During the first days of December, the leader of ERC [Catalonian Separatist Party] Josep Lluis Carod-Rovira, travelled to Perpignan convinced that he was going to meet the actual leaders of ETA “Mikel Antza” and “Josu Ternera”. According to EL MUNDO newspaper’s information, Carod was disappointed when two members of Batasuna [ETA’s political wing] appeared instead.

The two members of Batasuna told him the reasons why the leaders of the terrorist organization had not come, and programmed a second meeting. The agents of the CNI [Spanish Intelligence Service] displaced to Perpignan (that might have been warned from inside ERC itself) could record the access and exit of Carod-Rovira and the leaders of Batasuna from the building in which the meeting was held. We should recall that Maragall’s councillor [Carod-Rovira] has been an usual objective of the Spanish Intelligence since his negotiations with the terrorists of Terra Lliure [Catalonian terror group]. Neither the National Police nor the Civil Guard were informed of this operation.

Success came the second time. On January 4th Carod travels again to Perpignan, and this time he achieves his purpose, he meets the ETA leaders. The CNI agents are warned, so they had set up a complete surveillance operation around the Catalonian separatist. According to EL MUNDO information, the CNI gave for sure that Carod was going to come back to Perpignan for further meetings with “Antza” and “Ternera”.

Of course, the leaking of this information from the Spanish intelligence service to the media, six weeks before the National Elections, brought ETA again to the centre of the debate.

The same day when this news was published, the contract to rent the house of Morata by Jamal Ahmidan came into force.

THE PSOE KEEPS A SUPER MISSILE AGAINST RAJOY'S CAMPAIGN AND THE PP

Yesterday Saturday it seemed some leaders of the PSOE smiled again, those who were in the electoral campaign who these days were really sad.

February 22nd, 2004 Watch out, the match is far from over!, warned yesterday from the headquarters of the Socialist campaign in Gobelas, street -where the PSOE keeps his Electoral Strategy Comitee-. "In Genova [Genova Street, PP headquarters] assume the campaign is over and that the PSOE is finished for [trying to win] the March 14th elections, but this has just begun", insisted Socialist sources with whom yesterday talked "Deep Throat". "The Carod-Rovira issue [talks with ETA in France] and ETA truce in Catalonia, that so much thinks the PP has helped them, could in the end turn against them".

Yesterday Saturday it seemed the smile went back to the faces of some of the PSOE leaders that are involved in the campaign, those who these days were really sad, downcast and staggering along. "We have received good news from Gobelas, but now we cannot say anything more, the issue Carod-ETA can turn in a curious [odd] way", confessed almost whispering our sources.

Well, the joy that just some of the Socialist leaders showed during the morning -those who are in the campaign- contagiated rapidly hours later to many more. The "Something is going to happen" rumour spread during the Saturday evening in Santiago de Compostela to all the Socialist family that follows Zapatero in his electoral tour. People chatted on the same idea: "There is something about contacts between ETA and PP leaders and Pepiño (Blanco) and Alfredo (Pérez Rubalcaba) are analyzing the best moment to make it public". "Until the referee whistles, the match is going" - They said.

“Until the last bomb is detonated, the elections are open”. The Supermissile, now a classic in rumour spreading. Why did ETA have to be at the centre of the debate in that campaign? Unlike other elections, the Basque terror organization hadn’t carried out a murder yet. Its last operation, the Chamartín station bombing, was a fiasco. We must recall that its last killing happened in May 2003. Why did ETA have to be at the centre of the spot of public debate? Why did the Socialist party warn in such a way of what it seemed an imminent ETA attack? Because Aznar’s government was not negotiating with the Basque terror organization, therefore any “issue” between them could only mean that more assassinations were coming.

The Arrest of Two ETA Members with 500 Kilograms of Explosives Thwarts an Imminent Attack in Madrid

The Civil Guard has foiled an imminent attack in Madrid intercepting a van-bomb loaded with 506 kilograms of cloratite, 30 of titadine and 90 meters of detonating cord. The two ETA members arrested in Cañaveras (Cuenca) are Irkus Badillo-Borde and Gorka Vidal-Alvaro. The newspaper La Razón could be their objective.

Well, one week after the Socialist party warned about it, two lowest rank members of ETA are easily captured in a remote and mountainous region east of Madrid carrying half a ton of explosives. Of course, the consequence was more chatting about ETA and its expected and twice foiled “Category 5” attack, among the politicians working in the National Election campaign and the entire public opinion.

To Burst the Prince Wedding and an Attack at Baqueira, Objectives of the ETA Members Arrested.

ETA had designed a plan to burst the wedding of the Prince of Asturias. According to the newspaper La Razón, the ETA members wanted to trigger a major blackout the day before they get married. The arrest of the two ETA members in Cuenca has thwarted the attack. Moreover, Badillo and Vidal travelled in November to Baquiera [a Ski resort in the Pyrenees visited by Prime Minister Aznar and the royal family] to prepare a Christmas attack. Once they checked the strong security measures there, they desisted.

Later was known, that those lowest rank members of ETA had told the Police those early days of March that such attack at Baqueira ski resort was going to be carried out leaving thirteen backpacks, probably buried in snow, that were to be detonated later.

When he arrived at his office on March 11th, [interior] minister Acebes had on his desk a report on the ETA van stopped at Cañaveras on February 28th. That report included a copy of the map apprehended to those terrorists, which can be seen here:

In the map, which has blood stains because the car driven by one of the terrorists suffered a crash, the Henares Corridor is surrounded by an oval, next to which it seems there is an annotation.

Is it simply chance that those ETA terrorists had among their belongings that map with the Henares corridor marked? Is it simply chance that Acebes found it on his desk the morning of the attacks? It could be, evidently. But what is undoubted is that it looks striking.

As striking as the fact that no one has asked, in the Judicial Summary of 3/11, to those ETA members arrested in Cañaveras what means such mark on the Henares corridor.

The Henares corridor is the region northeast from Madrid which was crossed by the trains that later exploded near or inside Atocha station on 3/11. According to the Official Conspiracy Version, the backpacks which contained the bombs were loaded in the trains at Alcalá de Henares station itself.

Well, at this point things seem clear: ETA was preparing something big to say goodbye to Aznar. The rumour spread from the Socialist party and the information coming from the Intelligence service about the leaders of the terror organization talking with the Catalonian separatists, pointed out that something important was being planned. They tried it at Baqueira, but they failed; they tried it at Chamartín, but they failed; they tried it one more time with the van captured at Cañaveras, they failed again. At that point they were so angry that they carried out 3/11, following what was indicated on the map captured at Cañaveras, the backpacks planned for the Baqueira attack and the same operational methods of the attempted attack against Chamartín railway station, that is, leaving the backpacks on the train.

I would not say so. Please, check that it is strange that ETA had previously supplied all the details of the operation to the Spanish security forces: that it was going to be carried out using backpacks, that it was going to be done leaving the backpacks on trains, and that the Henares corridor might be the place to be attacked. It is also pretty bizarre that the Basque terror organization, that has killed more than 800 people, sent to carry out a big attack two weeks before the National Election day such unexperienced lowest rank members, who needed a mark to know where the Henares corridor is, and who began singing so quickly a tune about 13 backpacks. It is quite odd that they were easily captured in such remote region to the east from Madrid, as it is weird that the Chamartín attack on Christmas Eve was so rapidly foiled, even when one bomb was already on the train, in a "perfect" police operation.

Let’s continue highlighting that the other information that pointed out that ETA was preparing something big came, significantly, from the Socialist party itself and from a leak by the Spanish intelligence services.

What was really going on those weeks in Spain? The alternative seems clear: was ETA really preparing something or did somebody want to make think the Spanish public opinion and Aznar’s government that ETA was preparing something?

I just want to point out the oddity that if we choose the second option as hypothesis, many pieces of the puzzle that constitute the 3/11 case began to fit with frightening speed.

Under this hypothesis, ETA did not carried out 3/11 but was involved, as the map suggests, in what in intelligence terms is known as a disinformation campaign. Every big operation is preceded by a disinformation campaign. That is taught the first day in any secret service. The aim of this disinformation campaign was to make think Aznar’s government and the Spanish public opinion that ETA prepared something big, a “Cat 5” attack, a “Big One”, so, when something big happen, ETA was to be immediately blamed. Of course, once minister Acebes swallowed the bait and named ETA as prime suspect, evidence began to appear outside the trains that soon led to the arrest of four persons, two of them Muslims. After the attack came a textbook agitation campaign.

Check that under this hypothesis, 3/11 as intelligence operation, Trashorras and the other miners that allegedly supplied the explosives for the massacre, according to the Official Conspiracy Version, and who are probably lying because they still support the finding of the house of Morata, a house already “found” in two previous cases on Islamic terrorism; constitute simply “fabricated characters” built during years to appear as important explosive traffickers, as Lavandera tells,

Lavandera […] who served in the Spanish army special forces and then worked as a mercenary in Africa, confirms that Toro and Trashorras asked him to transport explosives for ETA in 2001.

He though it was simply a bait: "who could say such a thing outside the Nationalist environment of the Basque country?"

That is, Lavandera denounces simply contributed to construct the role of Trashorras -a light schizophrenic that may stay relatively soon out of prison due to illness- as major explosive trafficker, in order to be later sold to the public opinion as believable source of the dynamite for the massacre.

Beyond this hypothesis, since we have got evidence, we already know that Jamal Ahmidan, the man needed to link Toro and Trashorras to the Usual Suspects in Madrid, had to be framed. We have evidence of the methods used to link all those Usual Suspects to the attack: SIM cards, Goma-2 ECO and testimonies of police informers. This part of the plot is already uncovered, being the problem now not to find further evidence, but to find a judge who dares to sign a fair sentence, now that we glimpse who may really be behind the attack.

Going back to the hypothesis of an inside job, the negotiation between Zapatero’s government and ETA, disguised as a “peace plan”, simply covers up the invoices the terror group is sending to the Socialists in order to pay for its participation in the disinformation campaign, and probably in the supplying of explosives. The fact that those negotiations continued after the bombing of the Barajas airport proves how much the Socialists need ETA complicity.

Furthermore, under this hypothesis, the actual low level attacks carried out (it seems, but who actually knows) by ETA, are simply another stage of the uninterrupted collaboration between the Basque terror organization and members of our security forces to manipulate the Spanish public opinion. A change had to be made once the Socialist party lost the regional and local elections on May 27th, 2007, which constituted a clear warning that Johnny Spanish was not swallowing the so-called “peace plan”, no matter the efforts done by the MSM.

Just a hypothesis...

You know, I began this series of posts about 3/11 here at Freerepublic leaning on a May 2005 Frank J. Gaffney Jr.’s article. It stroke me how he rapidly and clearly pointed out the hypothesis of an inside job, discarding the Islamofascist and ETA options, as perpetrators of the attack.

In the end he might prove right, the actual mastermind probably wanted us to be eternally swinging between those two choices, so we could never even think about the third one. It was a good plan indeed.

I cannot forget either the words of former Prime Minister Aznar, when he was faced in the Commission of Investigation of 3/11 with the question of who, he thought, was behind the attack, ETA or Islamic terrorists, and the reaction to the answer, as if they had just sat down on a hedgehog, of the Socialists there:

The ones that planned it [3/11] are not hiding in distant deserts or remote mountains, I’ll say no more.

I haven't studied the case, Gritty, beyond a report on the structural damage the building suffered. I have read other comments of Freereps taking about it, and I wish I had some day the time to analyze it because that would mean the 3/11 case is over.

Unfortunately, anything is possible in Spain right now, especially if the right wing PP party keeps so small distance with the Socialists in the polls, ranging from a massacre carried out by ETA, to veiled threats of a coup told by high rank military close to the secret services, in order to polarize the public opinion.

The good news is that we already know their tactics, and that the Spanish public opinion is begining to realize about their deceptions: Zapatero negotiated too long with ETA, a good part of the population is becoming aware that they might be to faces of the same, hidden, thing.

It means that less aggressive groups like the ETA learn that extreme terrorist violence like Al Queda can induce political change.

I don't think so. Check that AlQaeda hasn't induced political change in western nations. For AlQaeda, we are all infidels, no matter we are Democrats and Republicans, Socialists or Populars.

Not even in Iraq Al Qaeda has achieved such political change, that might be interesting for them in Muslim, non-infidel, countries. On the contrary, their brutality has made sunni leaders to support the coalition.

In any case, extreme violence DOES NOT induce political change that could be use in one's advantage UNLESS the political situation is manipulated, and no one can manipulate such situation but high rank members of the government and other key elements of the society.

First of all, I would like to ask you what has the Iraq war to do with 3/11. It is often forgotten, that Spain already HAD TROOPS in Afghanistan. Why does "Al Qaeda" leave us alone if we withdraw from Iraq, when we have troops in Afghanistan? What is the difference for Al Qaeda between Iraq and Afghanistan?

Therefore, where is the appeasement? In Iraq but not in Afghanistan? What appeasement is that?

Moreover, Zapatero's programm on Iraq was, it is forgotten worldwide, to withdraw the Spanish troops there AT THE END of their mission, that was in June 2004, if there was not a clear UN resolution by then ruling that the "occupation" of Iraq was "legal".

And there was a UN resolution at the begining of June.

So why did Zapatero withdraw the Spanish troops in Iraq in April 2004, in his first decission, leaving the American ones alone in Najaf, which costed American lives?

The link between 3/11 and Iraq is another manipulation. Spain had already troops in Afghanistan. What Zapatero did leaving the Americans alone at Najaf was a gesture to forever link 3/11 with Iraq, that is, it was a part of an elaborated cover-up. Now anyone, worldwide, links both questions.

Zapatero won manipulating the elections, calling the directors of the main newspapers to say there were suicide bombers on the trains as a part of an agitation campaign founded on 192 assassinations and not doubting to leave American troops in combat alone just to Islamize a coup that had nothing of Islamic.

That is how I see your phrase "vote peace by appeasement". It is a bit more complex. BTW I don't think the fact that Spaniards were mistaken reduces our full responsibility.

Extreme violence by itself does not induce political change. The manipulation of extreme violence by government officials and other top members of the society does. I mean, extreme violence is only the bloody part of a vast plan usually preceeded by disinformation campaign and followed by an agitation campaign.

BTW, what has happened in Iraq with Al Qaeda, already happened in Algeria during the 1990's with the group GIA. People, even very poor Muslims, get finally fed up of indiscrimminate violence.

The general sentiment of AQ is that if we are not Muslim’s we are infidels and slavery, lies and death is what’s due if we don’t convert.

It is also world leaders choice to either stand and fight at whatever battlefield we or our enemies choose or to cut and run. Spain cut and ran from the battlefield. This provides our enemies a meter of which of us countries in the West to directly attack or temporarily leave alone.

However, while the AQ leadership may slow or pause direct attacks, the Muslim population increases their own demands to entitelments leading to a Muslim state. This has historically happened over and over. Britain and France are great examples with America also beginning to appease Muslims. Fortunately for the USA, our Muslim population is small. All Western countries will learn their isn’t a good middle ground to appeasement tactics. Here in the States, their is two sets of standards emerging. One for Muslims and one for non-Muslims. This doesn’t work. Western countries must enforce it’s own set of laws at all times and not capitulate one iota to Muslims. Since all Western nations are subject to either conversion by Islam or death, it is far better to make a direct statement of joining the fray against the enemy then getting a temporary reprieve from AQ direct attacks. So Zaperato acted like our Congress in the USA and opposed the war in Iraq by pulling the troops off the battlefield. It was poor leadership and lack of understanding how this enemy operates.

Like with any psychopathic spiritual belief, the enemy can only be destroyed through overwhelming force. In addition, we must tackle the countries now supplying the terrorists such as Iran, Syria, North Korea and Saudi Arabia. This is the second tier of the WOT. Beyond this tier of supporting nations, you have Russia and China also supporting the second tier.

Now to me you could end diminish 90% of the terrorist capabilities by getting Russia and China to do an about face and stop supporting these nations. Without this muscle at the top, you might see the second tier change it’s strategy. Since we know this is not going to happen, enough Western nations need to band together and diminish the power of the second tier, enough to influence Russia & China to feel they are not gaining anything by draining the West. Now, if we had stong leadership whom did not selfishly squander resources or play with our enemies at the UN making profits from them, we could accomplish our goals. The West must wake up and now. Calamity is at our doorsteps.

That being said, I don’t feel we have the time or resolve to stop the second tier in starting a regional war in the ME. Iran and Syria have plainly stated their ambitions to do exactly that and now we see North Korea providing nuclear assistance to these other two. Once this war has been resolved we will no doubt observe the collapse of the financial system in the West and have to deal with a much more powerful Russia and China. What is the way out?

Hold China accountable and raise import tarrifs. Drastically increase anti-intelligence capabilities and stop the leaks. Go beyond the missle shield and build nukes for Europe to counter the Russians. Force them again to try and compete financially now. Attack Iran to overthrow the leadership. Boots on the ground to Special Opps to overwhelming air power, the works. Accelerate our energy independance. Without energy, the West will quickly become sitting ducks. Foreign policy and tackling these enemies will become 100X harder if we have our energy supply disrupted temporarily and our current strategy of being drained economically in the ME to protect this asset is not going to be feasible considering the top tier’s movements into hostile sentiment and the West’s debt loads. Now, show me some leaders willing to make these moves now and you’ll see difficult yet positive outcome. Push these things to other Administrations you’ll see nuclear terrorism and the collapse of our financial system and inevitable direct confrontation with the tier one nations of Russia and China.
