Laura Hathaway initially had no regrets after getting a tattoo on her lower back when she was 21. But now, 10 years later, she wants it gone.
The pharmaceutical sales representative from Atlanta, Georgia, says it doesn't fit in with her current lifestyle as the mother of a 2-year-old boy who just started to talk. "The other day I bent over and he said, 'What's that?' and it just confirms why I'm having it removed."
Dr. Scott Karempelis of Atlanta Dermatology Associates is performing a multitreatment laser procedure that will gradually erase Hathaway's tattoo with little or no scarring. The process is painful, expensive and time-consuming.
Karempelis says that in spite of the drawbacks, "business is booming." He and three other dermatologists in his office see more than 30 patients a day who want tattoos removed by laser.
The American Academy of Dermatology reports tattoo regret is common in the United States. Among a group of 18- to 50-year-olds surveyed in 2004, 24 percent reported having a tattoo and 17 percent of those considered getting their tattoo removed.
Karempelis uses a state-of-the-art laser that targets the pigment in the tattoo. "It goes through the skin without damaging it and hits the pigment depending on which wavelength and which color you have, and it blows it into small pieces."
The tattoo ink is then reabsorbed into the body through the lymphatic system. The process must be completed over several sessions in order to protect the skin from damage.

I’d like to know what she had tatooed on her backside for the pleasure of whoever usually ‘held that position’....(chuckle)
Or as Jimmy Buffet calls them:
“A Permanent Reminder of a Temporary Feeling”
From past experience that's what you think of guns and gun ownership too so...I got a cheekful for your kind too. ; )
No guns, no dogs, no tats? hmmm no apple pie either you think? lmao ~Pandy~
Baze ball? Mebbe.
What no gunz? Now I am not liking this one bit. No rock & roll etc...What is left????
Universal Health Care that’s what. Don’t sweat it, pandy. Most of these high and mighty folks will be first in line to get their UHC chip inserted. With any luck the gooberment will hire a big tatooed biker to insert it for them. LOLOL

One can either follow God's Word, or one can debauch their bodies and hope that they've got it right.
Frankly I believe that if God wanted somebody to have a tattoo, then they'd be born with a mole, wine mark or something like that.
Dunno, its probably just me. Quite frankly tattoos are against my religion for the same reason that ANY debauchery is. I believe that they're as much an abomination unto the Lord as drunkeness, fornication, adultry and rudeness are.
But that's probably just me.
Don't know what to tell you 'bout that.

Yes, but you can eventually turn off rap music, change to more suitable clothes, let your body piercings grow together, let the dye grow out and cut your hair, and get a Golden Retriever ....
but the tat is forever, unless you have the time and money for the dermatologist.
A critical distinction that I neglected to make in my rant (although I did make reference to it in #22).
It is a critical distinction, and you are right to emphasize it. It puts tats in a different category from all the other stupid antics of exhibitionists. I really am much more disturbed by tats than all the other the temporary stuff. I must be going soft because it actually pains me that kids are permanently branding themselves with their foolishness.
Another thing that really upsets me about tats is their prevalence on college basketball players. I sometimes like to watch my old school's games, and I've tried hard for years to look away from the fact that half the players are not students at all but ball-playing thugs whose lives -- in every respect except their dribbling skills -- are an affront to the lofty pretenses of the university. Now, when they appear all tatted up, including, I think, gang markings, it is impossible to look the other way.
Street culture has always been with us. But I just despise to see how the establishment culture -- including universities -- have rolled over for it. I guess I was overlooking the fact that it sells.
Cool, another anti-tattoo judgefest. Let’s look down our noses at those people!
I doubt any of these kids as you put it give a hoot what you think. That must pain you too. Why don't you just not look? It is their lives & if they want to make a mistake let them. After all its not your business. You aren't going to change them. Maybe try to educate them . But if they want a tattoo they will get one or more... Furthermore why don't you look into what is inside of people without judging the outside? You might be shocked at what you find. Or not. Shaking my head again ...~Pandora~
I hate to tell you this, pandy. People don't want to look inside of other people. It requires looking inside yourself first and that's the most dangerous place you can go. Most people don't have what it takes to face that. Most.
Can't sing, ain't pretty and my legs are thin. Can't help about the shape I'm in.
Don't ask me what I think of you.
Might not give the answer that you want me to.
