MILBLOGGERS MEET THE PRESIDENT
Last Friday, several prominent milbloggers in the US and Iraq met with the President . . . BlackFive describes this AWESOME experience at the link below . . . The following comment was written in response:

“God is so GOOD.

I don’t think I’ve ever comment in here, but I have to share this:
We just last weekend had our 4th annual Tribute to the Troops mc ride and benefit concert here in MN, what we do is spend two days riding our bikes (the kind with engines) right to the homes of the families that have lost a soldier so we can thank them for their sacrifice and give them a hug, we also raise money to benefit our military and the families behind them, (some of you may have heard of us).

I was visiting with one of “the mothers” last Sunday night after the concert and she related to me the following: While she and her husband were in Washington D.C. for the memorial of their son she “just decided” she wanted to talk to the President, so she called the White House switchboard from her hotel room and asked if she could talk with President Bush. After the operator and her had a nice little chuckle about such a notion, she was connected with another operator and, well, through a small series of miracles she got her wish. This mother found herself sitting with him that day in his oval office, and they had a visit! Among other things they talked about, she said that she told Pres. Bush that she was completely behind him in his decision to go to into Iraq, and that her son did not die in vain, nor have any of our heros who have given it all. She told me he was visibly emotional during parts of their conversation. After they talked for awhile she shared a couple verses from scripture and prayed with him.

Reading the words you wrote here to describe President Bush really struck me because they are the exact words she used to describe him and her visit with him: “warm” “genuine” “intelligent” “emotional” - she also said her time with him was sincere and un-staged. (Of course, it was completely unplanned).

So, whether we may agree with him or not on every issue, our President is-who-he-is whether it be in a private meeting or a public setting. This is a man with true integrity.

There’s a verse in Proverbs that I think sort of speaks to people who jump to conclusions rather than take a moment to step back and observe, and even gather facts:

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
Pro 14:15

Thanks again to all of you bunches and bunches for what you do and report in here!!

SINKING IN THE POLLS (Al Qaeda)

The video reappearance of Osama bin Laden is a reminder that extremists with murderous methods continue to threaten innocent people worldwide. His emergence after three years of hiding also provides an opportunity to take stock of how differently the world now views the terrorist leader — and that view is turning darker than bin Laden’s newly dyed beard.

People in America and many other Western nations have expressed strong disapproval of bin Laden and al-Qaeda since the Sept. 11 attacks. What’s new is the dramatic decline in his standing in majority-Muslim countries. Polls in the two nations that have suffered some of the worst of al-Qaeda’s violence — Afghanistan and Iraq — show that more than 90 percent of those populations have unfavorable views of al-Qaeda and of bin Laden himself.

‘YOU HAVE LIBERATED A PEOPLE’
Iraqis of all sects report progress, not “civil war.”

BAGHDAD—”We liberated the Anbar, we defeated al Qaeda by denying it religious cover,” Sheikh Abdul Sattar Abu Reisha said with a touch of pride and impatience. This was the dashing tribal leader who emerged as the face of the new Sunni accommodation with American power, and who was assassinated by al Qaeda last week. I had not been ready for his youth (born in 1971), nor for his flamboyance. Sir David Lean, the legendary director of “Lawrence of Arabia,” would have savored encountering this man. There was style, and an awareness of it, in Abu Reisha: his brown abaya bordered with gold thread, a neat white dishdasha, and a matching headdress. “Our American friends had not understood us when they came, they were proud, stubborn people and so were we. They worked with the opportunists, now they have turned to the tribes, and this is as it should be. The tribes hate religious parties and religious fakers.”
