Alan Keyes, a Republican whose two previous runs for president ended in failure, is making a third try for the White House.
The Maryland conservative announced on his Web site that he filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Friday to make his candidacy official. He joins a crowded Republican field of nine candidates and is scheduled to participate Monday night at a debate involving lesser-known candidates in Florida.
Keyes, a former State Department official under President Reagan, made unsuccessful presidential runs in 1996 and 2000. He also has been a Senate candidate from Maryland, and, in 2004, he suffered a 43-percentage point loss to Democrat Barack Obama in the Senate race in Illinois. Republicans drafted Keyes after primary winner Jack Ryan dropped out amid a scandal.
In an interview with radio talk show host Janet Parshall, Keyes noted the wide-open nature of the GOP race. "There isn't a standout," Keyes said. "I'm like a lot of folks, who have just looked at it and been unmoved."
Keyes is such a verbal bomb thrower that he could make social conservatvies vote fo Rudy Giuliani like he did for Obama.
No thanks, Alan.
Hmmmmmmmmmm
I don’t care. He’d still be a better president than Mitt,Fred,Rudy,McCain.
You must have an extra chapter in your 'True Conservative Handbook' that is for reparations.
Of course “Keyes again”....he makes a lot of money running. He travels for free, stays in the top hotels....for free, eats.....for free and pockets all he can. He has no other income...other than charity. He’s not even a real preacher.
Sorry...didn’t mean Preacher....I meant “Politician”.
While I agree with your sentiment, perhaps we have too many “real politicians” in the race and running America already.
It was Pat Brown who made fun of Reagan for being an actor when he ran for Governor.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not going to run out the door supporting Keyes, but to categorically downplay him for not being a “real politician” is silly.
“Perhaps he wont ask for reparations this time around.”
“When he recieves them, they are called campaign contributions.”
...which Keyes has a history of turning into personal salary.
Alan Keyes long ago crossed the line between being a committed ideological conservative and a loose cannon in need of being committed.
Please, please, spare us, Alan. Write a book, host a reality show, date Paris Hilton - whatever! Just don’t run for President again!
Oh C’mon, Keyees is a good man and can maybe help split the smart vote vs the dumb vote.
Maryland? What happened to Illinois?
Sorry...didnt mean Preacher....I meant Politician.
1) I voted for McClintock.
2) Ron Paul is decent on economic issues but hopelessly naive on national security / foreign policy.
BTW, the recent FR Presidential Poll results appear to be absurd (15.1% for Paul, neck-and-neck with Hunter?). Something fishy is going on there.
Ego?
Matching funds?
Just what is it? This guy has no clue or chance.
Well, in fairness to Keyes, he was brought into the IL senate campaign because Judy Barr I’llstinkya refused to support Jack Ryan fight against some particularly heinous RAT tactics. There was no hope right from the start, frankly. I’llstinkya willingly gave the seat to Obama, RINO that she is.
But I agree with all your other points.
I am no expert on Keyes, but he always said the right thing whenever I heard him speak.
Why can't he compete? Money?
