Now that Thompson has finally declared his candidacy, albeit on the Jay Leno show, many are pinning their hopes on him as a later-day Ronald Reagan.
But hes no Ronald Reagan and hes never going to be viable. Heres why:
Hes A Political Light Weight and Hes Not Ready For The National Stage
In his first week of campaigning, Thompson has shown that he has neither the substance nor the experience that is essential for a serious presidential candidate. One wonders what makes him and his supporters think that he is, in any way, up to the job.
He skipped the New Hampshire debate last week and hes passing on a candidate forum in Fort Lauderdale next week. But given his air-headed performances in public so far, he ought to stay away. Far away. Maybe after a few more years of briefings, he might be ready but, hes definitely not presidential material right now.
In several recent public appearances, hes shown his complete lack of understanding about critical policy issues....
...he was asked about a national catastrophic fund that would help Florida residents who have been inflicted with extremely high increases in homeowners insurance since the hurricanes of the past few years. "I don't know enough about it yet," he said, while visiting Florida.
This man is out to lunch.
No dough
Thompson and his staff worked assiduously throughout June and July to raise funds.... But the results were underwhelming. They raised only $3.4 million and ...half of it came from Tennessee, where Thompson had served as senator, indicating future troubles in mounting a broad based fund raising operation.
So, for all of the above reasons, Fred Thompson is not likely to survive the stark light that shines on every presidential candidate.

Go away Dick, just go away.
Wow. I guess that’s it, then.
I mean, if DICK MORRIS doesn’t like him....
gnat! Win Fred Win
The toe sucker strikes again!
Obviously, I do not want Fred to win the nomination. But he is not a lightweight. If he is a lightweight, than that must make all the dems featherweights and a number of GOPers as well.
Remember, Dick Morris is ALWAYS wrong. So, while I’ve not been an upfront supporter of his, this has to be a good sign for him.
I would expect more “Fair and Balance”
Fred could run a successful campaign just on his recent Time to visit ‘anchor babies’” line from his gun show appearance.
I just can't believe the Fred said that.
“I don’t know enough about it yet,”
I would rather hear this from a pol than empty rhetoric or base platitudes any day.
...and eating well, better than the Romulan or Julie-annie anyway!
Dick wants Hillary elected so he can remain an expert for Fox regarding everything Clinton.
Hillary’s election keeps Morris employed for four more years.
Interesting article.
I predict controversy. ;)
Right...
I smell a Mittwit.
Daily Presidential Tracking Poll
Monday, September 17, 2007
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that Fred Thompson is the top choice for 28% of Likely Republican Primary Voters. In the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. Rudy Giuliani is the favorite for just 19%. John McCain is preferred by 14% and Mitt Romney attracts support from 12%. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee remains atop the second tier at 6% (see recent daily numbers).
And, HE does?
Although, he IS clean...
“I mean, if DICK MORRIS doesnt like him....”
Seriously. If Dick predicts one thing, you can guarantee the opposite will happen. I just wish he did sports betting. I’d get rich quickly just betting against his picks.
Wife says Obama stinks in the morning and kids refuse to get into their bed because of it. Probably cigarette smell.
