This is interesting in light of the coming internal Russian conflict concerning how Stalin and the Communists are to be remembered. The Russian Orthodox Church is making stronger statements regarding the millions of people victimized by Stalin and their participation in this commemoration seems to be another welcome step in that direction.

Putin may find himself having to make a very public decision in regards to this.

The independent Russian newspaper Vremya Novostei commented caustically on Monday that "this isn't about an improvement in bilateral relations because Mr President is visiting Russia in order to recall the most painful page in history."

Maybe that's because only now does Poland even have the chance to recall it, since for years the Russkies lied and blamed it on the Germans.

Easy deal,
If you had to rely on one or the other as a friend and ally, which would anyone choose, Russia or Poland?
Obviously Poland. They don’t seem to want to crap on, conquer, steel the natural resources, dictate to and murder their neighbors.

"Today we should pay respect, we should preserve their memory. Historical memory, of what is good and of what is bad, is important. But this does not mean we want to feed only on this memory," he said.

Wise words.

And an anathema to those who thrive in today's PC environment, unfortunately.
