"Help Wanted" Ad Belies Report on Iraq Security
The Washington Post ^ | September 17, 2007 | Walter Pincus

Posted on 09/17/2007 8:48:21 AM PDT by MurryMom

A week ago today, Gen. David H. Petraeus started his rounds on Capitol Hill, reporting that security in Iraq was improving to the point that a small number of troops could begin coming home by year's end.

But 10 days ago, his commanders in Baghdad began advertising for private contractors to work in combat-supply warehouses on U.S. bases throughout Iraq because half the soldiers who had been working in the warehouses were needed for patrols, combat and protection of U.S. forces.

Some crack Washington reporter ought to ask General Petraeus to explain this inconsistency with his report to Congress.

Uhhh, maybe security is improving because the soldiers are out doing the job they were traind to do instead of watching warehouse inventories.

A quick FR keyword search on Pincus.

No offense, MM, but I'll consider the source first :)

The military is freeing soldiers for combat related tasks. It makes sense to have private contractors take care of supply and administrative responsibilities. I see nothing wrong with that move.

As anyone who has every served in the military can tell you, it is standard operating procedure to hire civilians to work in rear echelon non-combat roles once those areas are deemed safe enough not to require combat trained troops.

Google "Battle of Wake Island" and you'll see most of the Americans killed there were civilian contractors stationed there because it was believed that Wake was an unlikely target of enemy attack in December 1941.

Its obvious that some (on crack) Reporter simply doesn’t understand how the military operates. This is quite embarassing actually, but then again, the media doesn’t feel shame for their stupidity, it is simply on to the next irrelevancy, drive by style..

Well mom I guess this shows what you and Pincus know about the military. I was in the Marine Corp from 1965 thru 1969 and most of the supply side of our bases where operated by civilians even then.

Maybe you should show how this is any different, of course you know absolutely nothing about what you spout.

Do you know anyone in the military? Did you converse with them first or decide that this "reporter" knows what the heck they're talking about because, "If it isn't true, a reporter won't say or insinuate it."?

The military has been weaning its members from ancillary support roles for decades and relies heavily on civilian contractor support for most non-combat roles.

This is pure stupidity. In NYC, they made an amazing discovery, almost 25 percent of the entire force never made it out to patrol and fight crime on any given shift. They at the station house busy pushing paper from one side of the desk to another. Some bean counter figured out they could pay civilians half the amount the cops were getting to fill out the reports, etc. The result, an increase of about 15% of cops on patrol (they had to keep some cops at the house) and crime decreased.

why? the answer is quite simple, they need some one to replace Blackwater since they’ve had their contracts yanked by the Iraqi government. Hopefully you’re not bent over the next time your knee jerks, you wouldn’t want to give yourself a blackeye now would you?

“Some crack Washington reporter ought to ask General Petraeus to explain this inconsistency with his report to Congress.”

No need. Our “crack” Freeper blog here can explain to you why there is no inconsistency.

The surge is working BECAUSE more of the desired skills and skill set shifted to direct combat, with less US MILITARY component WANTED or needed in combat supply; which over time must be shifted to the Iraqis and contractors more.

Some of our combat supply (too much) has been for the Iraqi troops, in addition to our own. In the transition of moving more of that directly to them, we will shift some of it to contractors and later directly to them, or eliminate the contractor(s) as our need diminishes, keeping more of our troops’ focus and mission combat-centered in the combat model of counterinsurgency.

Combat support to combat role ratios are highest in a build-up (it takes a lot of extra support to get an entire army operational in a new theatre) and when we finally withdraw completely from a theatre (the largest portion of direct-combat troops have already been withdrawn).

General Patreaus has no inconsistency to explain. Does you presence here have one?

Freepers, warning!!!!!, having read ALL this fakers posts, we can all quit responding to what otherwise would have been zotted, as Murrymom is only here to deliver the daily Kos/Netroots koolaid for them.

She’s been here since 1998, a lot longer than you. That would make her one hell of a sleeper or you, one hell of a troll yourself.

I might have to apoligize to you. After going back and looking a past posts from Murryom, she sure does a LOT of shilling for the dems and a lot of pounding on Republicans.

Go back and read her past posts. Very interesting.

As I was just about to say to you, the revelation of her disposition is rendendered by its particular quality (liberal nut) not by how long she has been delivering it here.

Wuli is right. I don’t think you belong on FR.

To the question whether Hillary will release her medical records; “If Hillary reveals all of her records including copies of pap smears, blood tests, and x-rays her ardent critics still will not be satisfied. Instead we can expect those cynical Repbulicans to promote another pseudoscandal like Whitewater, dreamed up and promoted by Republicans including Richard Scaife and editors of the National Review.”

More; “How tragic it is to see old chicken hawks in the Bush administration who are unwilling to talk to potential adversaries but seem so ready to dispatch young people to fight and die.”

“Sure, just so long as you thank the Clinton-Gore administration for the booming economy that Bush inherited. And blame Bush for the Iraq war, skyrocketing budget deficits, several million more Americans uncovered by health insurance, and rapidly increasing suicide rates.”

“Bush’s economy is anemic compared with Clinton’s.”

“It’s not just Democrats who are taking issue with the next to useless recommendations of General Petraus, a few thinking Republicans legislators are, too.”

“Hey, Democrats are nice people. We don’t go around calling our political opponents “assholes” ala Duncan Hunter and other heroes of the disgraced and sexually hypocritical R party.”

“Republican sympathizers ought to observe a moratorium on posting scandalous accusations against Democrats every September 10.”

“Friends don’t let friends vote the R ticket.”

“I don’t mind being categorized with Jane Fonda and John Kerry...”

“Senator Craig’s resignation was a class act, unlike most GOP speeches.”

“The South Carolina beauty queen contestant featured on TV this week would make an excellent replacement for Tony Snow.”

And my favorite; “Here’s how the Afghani Taliban compares with the American Taliban on issues of Tolerance, Marriage, and God:
Tolerance

Al Qaida/Taliban: Death to the infidels

American Taliban/Republicans: Kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity

Democrats: Live and let live

Marriage

Al Qaida/Taliban: Marriage is only between a man and a woman

American Taliban/Republicans: Marriage is only between a man and a woman

Democrats: Marriage is between any two people who love each other”

You Are A DU or KOS Sleeper.

MurryMom has been zotted. It's not unheard of for her to cross the line when discussing the war and the mods give her a timeout. Hopefully this one is permanent.

Here's an exchange between myself and Jim Robinson that might help explain why "MurryMom is tolerated here:

Given this person's comments on this thread and the thread about the Crawford anti-Bush protest, and given her apparent coordination with DU, I respectfully request a public explanation:

Why is this despicable hatemonger still a freeper after 7 years?

I told our fellow Freeper “toddlintown”, last night, that I’m pretty sure I can now tell her by her writing style alone (use of certain words with great frequency in certain contexts) and even if she comes in with a new alias, I expect she will be identified quickly.

I dropped a couple of complaints on her yesterday after going through her previous posts. Her love of Hillary was one thing, but the homo marriage postings had to go, and her with them.
